And we&#8217;ve looked at a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-candy-commercial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>pub<\/strong> (French TV commercial) for Haribo<\/a> as well. But these two that I came across recently do such a good job of combining the two, that I just had to share them. They also provide a nice illustration of the useful French verb\u00a0<strong>pr\u00e9f\u00e9rer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-31365\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/05\/bright-candies-colorful-539447-350x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/05\/bright-candies-colorful-539447-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/05\/bright-candies-colorful-539447.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Je pr\u00e9f\u00e8re &#8230;<\/strong> \/ <em>I prefer &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just like the English\u00a0<em>to prefer<\/em>,\u00a0<strong>pr\u00e9f\u00e9rer<\/strong> means &#8216;to like one thing more than another&#8217;. It&#8217;s not that you don&#8217;t like the first thing, you just like something else more. As in:\u00a0<strong>J&#8217;aime les westerns, mais je pr\u00e9f\u00e8re les films d&#8217;horreur.<\/strong> (<em>I like westerns, but I prefer horror movies.)<\/em> Or:\u00a0<strong>Monique aime la campagne, mais elle pr\u00e9f\u00e8re la plage.<\/strong> (<em>Monique likes the country, but she prefers the beach.)\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatefaireconjuguer.com\/search?verb=pr%C3%A9f%C3%A9rer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conjugation<\/a> is pretty straightforward, except for a few present tense forms (like the two seen in these examples) that flip the second\u00a0<strong>accent aigu<\/strong> for an\u00a0<strong>accent grave<\/strong>.
