La musique<\/strong><\/a> (music) is always a great way to keep studying when you’re tired of looking at les conjugaisons<\/strong> (conjugations) and le vocabulaire<\/strong> (vocabulary). Finding a fun chanson<\/strong> (song) that you sing along to outside of the classroom turns boring practice into a new hobby.<\/p>\n

Les chanteurs fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> (French singers) are incredibly famous with songs like Les Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and La vie en rose<\/strong><\/em><\/a> commonly known across the globe. The familiar sounds of les chansons<\/strong> makes them fun to listen to outside of les devoirs<\/strong> (homework) or any obligation to learn la langue fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> (the French language)!<\/p>\n

The reverse is something that is sometimes less well-known, but still amazingly similar with versions of La banni\u00e8re \u00e9toil\u00e9e<\/strong><\/a> (the Star Spangled Banner) en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong> being immediately recognizable to anyone aux \u00c9tats-Unis<\/strong> (in the United States) and many more people around the world.<\/p>\n

So when I discovered Sara’h<\/em> <\/strong>and her covers of popular English language songs, it immediately made me think of that feeling of singing along to une chanson connue<\/strong><\/a> (a familiar song) in a new language.<\/p>\n

Like MIKA<\/em><\/a>, Sara’h<\/strong> <\/em>is une chanteuse francophone<\/strong> (a French language singer) of Lebanese descent, but unlike le chanteur anglais<\/strong> (the English singer) she grew up en France<\/strong>. Distancing her even more from the superstar, Sara’h<\/strong> <\/em>is a part of the wave of YouTube stars who never followed the traditional route to fame, but have nonetheless become mainstream sensations.<\/p>\n

What’s interesting for French learners is that while Sara’h <\/strong><\/em>has many tubes<\/strong><\/a> (hit songs) en fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>, her fame stems more from her amazing ability to adapt English language songs into le fran\u00e7ais<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That’s why I wanted to to share one of her great covers with you today. Sara’h<\/strong> does a great version of Beyonc\u00e9’s Halo<\/em> and like with all her covers, she takes special care to adapt les paroles<\/strong><\/a> (the lyrics) so it really is more than just une traduction<\/strong><\/a> (a translation).<\/p>\n

The end result is une chanson<\/strong><\/a> that is not only worth listening to, but also keeps your practice and study time fun and engaging.<\/p>\n
