Their e<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCRWhwFtif1T5mpFokTUnu6g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">xtensive collection of YouTube videos<\/a> is a great resource for practicing your French listening comprehension skills while learning! The video below highlights the variety of opinions around the building of the Louvre Pyramid, which began in 1985. In office from 1981 &#8211; 1995, he left his mark on the county, and on Paris with not just the Louvre Pyramid but an ambitious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bnf.fr\/en\/francois-mitterrand\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">library project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jacques Chirac (future president of France and <strong>Maire de Paris \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque<\/strong> \/ <em>Mayor of Paris at the time<\/em>) had an interesting idea. He requested that a life-size model be erected at the site so that <strong>les Parisiens pouvaient se faire une opinion du projet<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>so that the Parisians could get an idea of the project<\/em>). <strong>Et qu\u2019en avaient-ils pens\u00e9?<\/strong> (<em>And what did they think?<\/em>)<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"312\"><strong>Fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"312\"><em>English<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"312\"><b>Premi\u00e8re femme : \u00c7a ne me plait pas, d\u2019abord pourquoi une pyramide ? \u00c7a me fait penser \u00e0 l&#8217;Egypte. Ensuite dans un cadre aussi magnifique \u2026 Tout l\u2019argent qu\u2019on a investi l\u00e0-dedans, on aurait mieux fait de restaurer le palais. \u00c7a aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 plus int\u00e9<\/b><strong>ressant. C\u2019est dommage. Je trouve que c\u2019est dommage, c\u2019est tout.<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"312\"><em>First woman\u00a0: I don\u2019t like it (lit. It does not please me), first why a pyramid? It makes me think of Egypt. And in such a magnificent setting \u2026 All the money they\u2019re investing in it would have been better spent on restoring the palace. That would have been more interesting. It\u2019s too bad.
