In France, the equivalent of these two awards of le septi\u00e8me art<\/strong> <\/em>(“Seventh Art”, referring to Film, according to the Hegelian ranking of arts)\u00a0are, respectivement <\/strong><\/em>(respectively), les C\u00e9sars<\/em><\/strong>, and le Prix\u00a0Lumi\u00e8re<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

It is la presse \u00e9trang\u00e8re <\/strong><\/em>(the foreign press) based in the French capital that designates the les\u00a0gagnants de cette ann\u00e9e <\/em><\/strong>(the\u00a0winners of this year), who can either be French <\/strong>or des francophones<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This year,\u00a0le plus\u00a0grand gagnant<\/em><\/strong> (the biggest winner) is Xavier Beauvois<\/strong>, <\/em>with his “Des Hommes et des dieux” <\/em><\/strong>(“Of Gods and Men”), which deals with an\u00a0incident that belongs to Algeria<\/strong>‘s “d\u00e9cennie noire” <\/em><\/strong>(“Black Decade”),\u00a0ranging roughly from 1990<\/strong> to 2000. <\/strong>Despite a rather neat performance of a number of its lead actors, and\u00a0the honors subsequently bestowed on it, this movie -which has already\u00a0earned the Grand Prix <\/em><\/strong>at last year’s Festival de Cannes<\/em>– <\/strong>doesn’t\u00a0unfortunately come even close to identifying “les tenants et aboutissants” <\/strong><\/em>(“the ins and outs”) of the context within which this tragic\u00a0incident took place.\u00a0Comme cela est souvent le cas <\/em><\/strong>(As it is often the case), it seems that some “lignes rouges<\/em>“<\/strong>(“red lines”, that is)\u00a0are never meant to be crossed when French\u00a0movies\u00a0deal with “le dossier alg\u00e9rien<\/em>” <\/strong>(“the Algerian File.”)<\/p>\n

Other than that, le prix du meilleur acteur<\/strong><\/em> (the Award of the Best Actor) went to “veteran” French actor\u00a0Michael Lonsdale. <\/strong>Remember him? He embodied\u00a0le villain<\/strong><\/em> in the “Moonraker<\/strong>” James Bond:<\/p>\n
