Whether you&#8217;re <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-alternative-transportation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a tourist exploring the city<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/des-transports-hors-communs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commuter on your daily commute<\/a>, or <strong>un <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-visit-to-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pilote de course<\/a><\/strong> (<em>a race car driver<\/em>) there are always ways to get where you&#8217;re going. That was easier said than done, of course, during the recent <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-current-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>gr\u00eaves<\/strong> <\/a><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">Which, while they have fluctuated, continue to cause challenges for des usagers \/ commuters across France<\/span> (<em>strikes<\/em>) in France &#8230; during which I learned a new term!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-31825\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/02\/action-adult-blur-car-620335-350x233.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/02\/action-adult-blur-car-620335-350x233.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/02\/action-adult-blur-car-620335.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le covoiturage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le covoiturage\u00a0<\/strong>is a bit like carpooling, a bit like ride-sharing, and all the rage for getting where you want to go in France without your own car &#8230; or for helping to defray the costs of your own trips by sharing the ride with another (or\u00a0<strong>plusieurs<\/strong> \/\u00a0<em>many<\/em>) rider(s).<\/p>\n<p>The most famous company dedicated to\u00a0<strong>le covoiturage<\/strong> is called\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.blablacar.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>BlaBlaCar<\/strong><\/a>. BlaBlaCar matches up\u00a0<strong>des conducteurs<\/strong> (<em>drivers)<\/em> with\u00a0<strong>des passagers<\/strong> (<em>passengers)<\/em> for a shared drive across town or across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s name comes from a common French expression for conversation\/talking &#8230; or empty chatter. In English, we might say <em>yadda yadda yadda.<\/em> When choosing a route, drivers and passengers could specify a ride from a driver\u00a0<strong>plus bavard ou moins bavard<\/strong> (<em>more chatty or less chatty) <\/em>depending on the level of engagement you wanted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>R\u00e9cemment<\/strong><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"2\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817-2\">2<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31817-2\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"2\">in 2018<\/span> (<em>Recently) <\/em>BlaBlaCar expanded their services with the acquisition of a bus company. Now riders can find shared rides with private drivers or access the many bus routes available to get to their destination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Et pour finir &#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a little throwback to <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-grammar-tell-me-why\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last week<\/a> when we talked about the different ways to express causality in French.
