As we discussed, <strong>les pronoms d\u00e9monstratifs<\/strong> generally agree in gender and number with the nouns they replace \u2026 with one exception that we\u2019ll look at this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Le cas exceptionnel de <em>ce<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ce<\/strong> (or <strong>c\u2019<\/strong> when it comes before a vowel) is a demonstrative pronoun that can replace just about any nominal group or phrase. Unlike it\u2019s other, gendered cousins, <strong>ce<\/strong> doesn\u2019t need to agree in gender or number with the thing or things it is replacing.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cette chemise<\/span> est celle que j\u2019aime le mieux. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">C\u2019est<\/span> ma pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9e.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This shirt is the one that I like the best. It is my favorite.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ce film<\/span> est celui que j\u2019aime le mieux. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">C\u2019est<\/span> mon pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This is the movie that I like the best. It is my favorite.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Cette voiture<\/span> est \u00e0 mon p\u00e8re. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">C\u2019est<\/span> \u00e0 lui.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This car belongs to my father. It is his.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Ce chien<\/span> est \u00e0 ma s\u0153ur. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">C\u2019est<\/span> \u00e0 elle.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>This dog belongs to my sister. It is hers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Petite mise \u00e0 jour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A little update on a comment from <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-news-a-la-une\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last week<\/a>: In doing a bit more research it seems that the expression <em>visionnage en rafale (<\/em>or <em>visionnement en rafale<\/em>) is more common in Qu\u00e9bec, while in France you\u2019re more likely to encounter the very franglais <em>binge-watching<\/em>, <em>binge-viewing<\/em>, or even <em>visionnage boulimique<\/em> (not a particularly good image, if you ask me!).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Un peu plus de musique<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/language-news\/2020\/01\/28\/music-and-song-enhances-the-language-learning-experience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transparent Language Spotify list<\/a> is live!
