Even with a much smaller number of channels to choose from, I enjoyed discovering new and interesting programs. One that I enjoyed had a very French beginning, though I didn&#8217;t know it at the time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31880 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/03\/woman-smiling-at-daytime-792812.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/03\/woman-smiling-at-daytime-792812.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/03\/woman-smiling-at-daytime-792812-350x232.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Les Barbapapas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps I already had\u00a0<strong>une \u00e2me fran\u00e7aise <\/strong>(<em>a French soul)<\/em> or maybe the show spoke to some hidden\u00a0love of the surreal, but from the beginning, I was charmed by this odd story of amorphous, shape shifting creatures and their adventures.<\/p>\n<p>Translated into more than 30 languages, these creations of a Franco-American couple, the Barbapapas have appeared in numerous <strong>livres<\/strong> (<em>books)<\/em> and cartoons. Their humorous name comes from the French for <em>cotton candy<\/em><sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31867\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31867-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_31867-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">also known as cotton floss and fairy floss in the English speaking world<\/span>, <strong>la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/oh-la-barbe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">barbe<\/a> \u00e0 papa<\/strong> (lit. <em>daddy&#8217;s beard<\/em>).
