Starting at\u00a0<strong>midi le 17 mars<\/strong> (<em>March 17 at noon<\/em>) the French could only leave their homes for a strictly defined list of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-responding-to-a-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>d\u00e9placements d\u00e9rogatoire<\/strong> (<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-responding-to-a-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">exceptional outings)<\/a>. <\/em>That may all be about to change.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31968 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/action-carefree-cropland-daylight-1146242-350x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/action-carefree-cropland-daylight-1146242-350x218.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/action-carefree-cropland-daylight-1146242.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le D\u00e9confinement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As conditions across France improve, the government is looking at the best ways and the best timing to open the country back up.<\/p>\n<p>This period of\u00a0<strong>d\u00e9confinement<\/strong> (<em>un-quarantining)<\/em>, currently planned to begin on May 11, is based on\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.francetvinfo.fr\/sante\/maladie\/coronavirus\/coronavirus-decouvrez-la-carte-de-france-du-deconfinement-du-dimanche-3-mai_3946791.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">une synth\u00e8se de deux indicateurs<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>a synthesis of two indicating factors)<\/em>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><b>La circulation active du virus <\/b><\/strong>(<em>the circulation of the virus)<\/em>\u00a0is based on the number trips to the emergency room for Covid patients <strong>par rapport\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>as compared to<\/em>) the total number of suspected Covid-19 cases.<\/li>\n<li><strong><b>La tension hospitali\u00e8re sur les capacit\u00e9s en r\u00e9animation <\/b><\/strong><em>(hospital capacity beds for treating patients)<\/em> is calculated based on the number available beds for Covid patients versus the number of occupied beds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As of\u00a0<strong>le 3 mai\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>May 3<\/em>), 50 departments (mostly in the south and west of the country) were calssified <strong>verts<\/strong> (<em>green),<\/em> 19 <strong>oranges<\/strong> (including <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/france_le_grand_paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>la r\u00e9gion parisienne \/ \u00cele-de- France<\/strong><\/a> ), and 32\u00a0<strong>rouges<\/strong> (<em>red).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00c0 quoi ressemblera la France d&#8217;apr\u00e8s?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>What will life in France look like<\/em> <em>afterwards<\/em>? It is hard to say for sure as details are still being worked out (and just yesterday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linternaute.com\/actualite\/guide-vie-quotidienne\/2491651-plan-de-deconfinement-du-11mai-de-nouvelles-annonces-le-senat-vote-contre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the senate voted against the latest government proposals<\/a>). But here are some things we could see:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Une aide\u00a0<strong>de 200 euros <\/strong>vers\u00e9e aux moins de 25 ans <\/strong>\u00a0(<em>government assistance of 200 euros<\/em>) to people under 25 who lost their job, internship, or are otherwise in financial difficulty,<\/li>\n<li><strong>Le port de masque obligatoire dans les coll\u00e8ges<\/strong> (<em>masks must be worn in all middle schools<\/em>),<\/li>\n<li><strong>Les offices religieux pourraient reprendre \u00e0 partir du 29 mai<\/strong> (<em>religious services can begin after May 29<\/em>),<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As in other countries trying to figure out<a href=\"https:\/\/www.francetvinfo.fr\/sante\/maladie\/coronavirus\/deconfinement-voici-les-regles-a-respecter-dans-chaque-entreprise_3946811.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> how best to accommodate to this new &#8220;normal&#8221;<\/a>, companies in France will also have to make adjustments including\u00a0<strong>un espace minimum de 4 m\u00b2 par salari\u00e9, des masques \u00e0 fournir aux salari\u00e9s, et\u00a0<\/strong><strong>m\u00ea<\/strong><strong>me des horaires \u00e0 r\u00e9organiser pour \u00e9viter aux employ\u00e9s de se croiser<\/strong> (<em>a minimum space per employee of 4 square meters, masks provided to employees, and even updated hours to prevent employees from crossing paths).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Keeping track of it all will no doubt be complicated.
