And while travel within 100 kms of home is now permitted, foreign visitors will still need to quarantine for 14 days if they travel to France. So no trips for me anytime soon &#8230; but the news did get me thinking about when I might be able to go back to my favorite city in the world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31979 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/assorted-colour-umbrellas-2462918-280x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/assorted-colour-umbrellas-2462918-280x350.jpg 280w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/assorted-colour-umbrellas-2462918.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Des id\u00e9es<\/strong> <strong>insolites<\/strong> \/ <em>Unusual ideas<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure on my first trip back I&#8217;ll fill a lot of my time exploring some of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/mon-paris-a-moi-my-paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">my old favorites<\/a>. But I will want to mix in some new experiences as well, like when I visited the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/la-place-dauphine-paris\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Place Dauphine<\/a> for the first time last fall.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately Paris still has much for me &#8230; and you &#8230; to discover!<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-31980 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/IMG_0355-263x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"263\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/IMG_0355-263x350.jpg 263w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/IMG_0355-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/IMG_0355-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/05\/IMG_0355-rotated.jpg 1224w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/>La crypte de la colonne de Juillet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While anyone who has visited the city is likely familiar with the July Column, rising as it does over 50 meters (164 feet) above the famous place de la <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/5-facts-about-the-bastille\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bastille<\/a>, what few know is that there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.20minutes.fr\/paris\/1818079-20160401-paris-crypte-colonne-juillet-place-bastille-prochainement-ouverte-public\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a crypt underneath<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>The crypt, open to the public since 2018, houses remains of not only participants of the 1830 revolution that ended the reign of Charles X (and which the monument commemorates), but also from the 1848 revolution.<\/p>\n<div class=\"woo-sc-box  normal   \">On a panel at the base of the column one can read <strong>\u00c0 la gloire des citoyens fran\u00e7ais qui s&#8217;arm\u00e8rent et combattirent pour la d\u00e9fense des libert\u00e9s publiques dans les m\u00e9morables journ\u00e9es des 27, 28, 29 juillet 1830.<\/strong> \/ <em>To the glory of the French citizens who armed themselves and fought to defend the public liberty on the memorable days of July 27, 28, 29, 1830.<\/em><\/div>\n<p><b>Du Japon \u00e0 Paris<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le d\u00e9paysement <\/strong><em>(change of scenery \/ <\/em>lit. <em>&#8216;uncontrying&#8217;<\/em>) that comes with any travel is doubled in the gardens of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guimet.fr\/pantheon-bouddhique\/le-jardin-de-l-hotel-d-heidelbach\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">H\u00f4tel d&#8217;Heidelbach<\/a> au Mus\u00e9e national des arts asiatiques<\/strong> (<em>Heidelbach House at the National Museum of Asian Arts<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Complete with\u00a0<strong>pavillon de th\u00e9\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>tea house),\u00a0<\/em>the gardens, designed by the Franco-Japanese architect Agn\u00e8s Latour-Kurashige, will transport visitors from the heart of Paris&#8217;s 16th arrondissement to <a href=\"https:\/\/vivreparis.fr\/paris-le-jardin-de-lhotel-heidelach-cet-ecrin-cache\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the tranquility of the Japanese countryside<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Les rues presque vides &#8230;\u00a0<\/strong>\/\u00a0<em>The nearly empty streets &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One thing that I won&#8217;t ever get to see &#8211; at least in person &#8211; are the streets of Paris as they have been these last few weeks during <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-opinions-covid-confinement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>le confinement<\/strong><\/a>.
