But 1789 &#8211; <strong>la R\u00e9volution fran\u00e7aise<\/strong> &#8211; was just the first French revolution \u2026 and it wasn&#8217;t the end of the monarchy. While none were perhaps ever quite so dramatic, the history of France is also marked by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>La r\u00e9volution de Juillet<\/strong> also known as <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-new-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>les Trois Glorieuses<\/strong><\/a> (for <strong>les trois <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/lheure-de-la-sortie-quitting-time\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">journ\u00e9es <\/a>de 27, 28, 29 juillet<\/strong> \/ <em>the three days in July, 1830<\/em>), ended the reign of Charles X and the period known as <strong>la restauration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>La r\u00e9volution de 1848<\/strong>, also known as <strong>la r\u00e9volution de F\u00e9vrier<\/strong>, will be familiar &#8211; along with\u00a0 <strong>ses fameuses barricades<\/strong> (<em>famous barricades<\/em>) to any fans of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1q82twrdr0U\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/strong><\/a>. This revolution ended the rule of Bourbon kings in France once and for all.<\/li>\n<li><strong>La Commune de Paris<\/strong> (<em>mars &#8211; mai 1871<\/em> \/ <em>March &#8211; May 1871<\/em>) was a republican uprising that sought to revive\u00a0 the goals of the original French revolution after a period of kings and emperors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Charles X? 1830?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As noted, the death of Louis XVI during <strong>la R\u00e9volution de 1789<\/strong> was not the end of <strong>la monarchie<\/strong> in France. After Louis lost his head \u2026 and his throne! \u2026 most people probably assumed that was also the end of the Bourbons. But it wasn&#8217;t!
