{"id":32243,"date":"2020-08-25T05:30:29","date_gmt":"2020-08-25T03:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=32243"},"modified":"2020-08-24T00:09:57","modified_gmt":"2020-08-23T22:09:57","slug":"french-culture-the-little-prince","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-the-little-prince\/","title":{"rendered":"French Culture &#8211; The Little Prince"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I realized recently that, while we\u2019ve often evoked it, no one here at the Transparent Language French Blog has ever really talked about Le Petit Prince \u2026 perhaps one of the most famous (or if not, at least well-loved) books ever written in French.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32253 size-medium alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/08\/pexels-evie-shaffer-2512388-245x350.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/08\/pexels-evie-shaffer-2512388-245x350.jpg 245w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2020\/08\/pexels-evie-shaffer-2512388.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Je ne veux plus \u00eatre raisonnable \u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Often taught in high school French classes because it is relatively short and it is full of useful vocabulary, Le Petit Prince is also full of beautiful themes.<\/p>\n<p>Like in <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-comfort-food\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le Soldat Rose<\/a>, a main theme of The Little Prince is the importance of keeping one&#8217;s childlike view of the world. Le petit prince tells us that &#8220;<strong>on ne voit bien qu&#8217;avec le c\u0153ur. L&#8217;essentiel est invisible pour les yeux<\/strong>&#8221; (<em>one can only see well with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eyes).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Si vous ne l\u2019avez pas encore lu, vous devriez vraiment !<\/strong> (<em>If you\u2019ve never read it, you really should<\/em>). Now available on YouTube, this lovely musical version adds a new dimension to the story through <strong>les chansons<\/strong> (<em>songs<\/em>) and<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/zazie-dans-le-metro-et-ailleurs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> <strong>la mise-en-sc\u00e8ne<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/DIJOWJgHWJE\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/DIJOWJgHWJE<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Au cin\u00e9ma<\/strong> \/ <em>At the movies<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1754656\/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2015 movie adaptation<\/a> (<strong>disponible sur Netflix<\/strong>)\u00a0adds a new dimension (perhaps a controversial one to some!) to the story by showing us what happens after the end of the original tale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ce qui est important &#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Originally published in the US, Le Petit Prince only appeared in France after Saint-Exup\u00e9ry\u2019s death following the liberation of France. It was only recently that I learned that Antoine de Saint-Exup\u00e9ry wrote Le Petit Prince while living in New York during World War II. At the beginning of the war he flew reconnaissance missions for the French military, but after the 1940 armistice with Germany he went to New York where he worked to convince the United States to engage in the war \u2026 and wrote (and illustrated!) what would become his most successful novel.<\/p>\n<div class=\"woo-sc-box  normal   \">Last week Bridgette shared <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/au-camping\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a great post about camping in France<\/a>.
