To see their\u00a0<i>carte des r\u00e9sultats\u00a0Etat par\u00a0Etat,<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">map of results, state by state<\/span><\/i>\u00a0click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/international\/article\/2020\/11\/04\/elections-americaines-2020-suivez-la-carte-des-resultats-en-direct_6058394_3210.html\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Donc<\/em>, seeing as there is a <i>atmosph\u00e8re politique\u00a0tendue<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"2\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-2\">2<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-2\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"2\">tense political atmosphere <\/span><\/i>\u00a0in the US this week , I wanted to discuss a little bit about the political system in France.<\/p>\n<p>In France, elections are held once every cinq ans<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"3\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-3\">3<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-3\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"3\">five years<\/span>, and Election Day is always held <em>le dimanche<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"4\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-4\">4<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-4\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"4\">on Sundays<\/span>.\u00a0<\/em>Their motto is &#8220;<em>Libert\u00e9, Egalit\u00e9, Fraternit\u00e9<\/em>&#8221; (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) which finds its origins in the French Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>France is currently in their &#8216;Fifth Republic&#8217; which began in 1958. It is a hybrid of a presidential\/parliamentary system. The current <em>pr\u00e9sident de la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"5\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-5\">5<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-5\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"5\">President of the French Republic<\/span><\/em>\u00a0is Emmanuel Macron. He is the <em>chef de l&#8217;\u00c9tat<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"6\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-6\">6<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-6\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"6\">Head of State<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>and the <em>Premier ministre<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"7\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-7\">7<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-7\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"7\">Prime Minister<\/span>,\u00a0<\/em>Jean Castex, is the <em>chef du gouvernement fran\u00e7ais<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"8\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-8\">8<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-8\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"8\">Head of the government<\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Parliament is made up of the National Assembly (the lower house). The National Assembly is located in the <em>Palais Bourbon<\/em> with 577 <em>d\u00e9put\u00e9s<\/em> elected elected by the people, in general elections <i>(\u00c9lections l\u00e9gislatives)<\/i> that take place every five years.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate (the upper house) is located inside the Luxembourg Palace (<em>Palais du Luxembourg)<\/em>. It has more than 300 senators.\u00a0Senators are elected by other locally elected representatives every five years.<\/p>\n<p>The President in France serves a 5-year term (<i>le quinquennat<\/i>). The maximum number of terms a president can serve is limited to two. The president is the commander of the military and also\u00a0determines policy with the aid of his Council of Ministers (<i>Conseil des ministres<\/i>). The residence of the President of the French Republic is the Elys\u00e9e Palace <i>(le palais de l&#8217;Elys\u00e9e)<\/i> in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>The President is the one who appoints the <em>Premier ministre. <\/em>The Prime Minister is the one who directs the\u00a0actions of the government and ensures the implementation of laws. The residence of the French Prime Minister is at Matignon House<i> (l&#8217;H\u00f4tel Matignon)<\/i> in Paris.<\/p>\n<p><em>De fa\u00e7on int\u00e9ressante<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"9\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-9\">9<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_32454-9\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"9\">Interestingly<\/span>, <\/em>Emmanuel Macron, having been elected at the age of 39, is the youngest leader in France since Napoleon Bonaparte.
