Life\u2019s celebrations, the big and small alike, are especially important to the French. I\u2019ve rarely met anyone who takes the art of celebration<\/a> as seriously \u2026 especially No\u00ebl<\/strong><\/a>. Sadly, this year, due to the on-going Coronavirus pandemic, like many of us, les Fran\u00e7ais.es<\/strong> are having to rethink les f\u00eates de fin d\u2019ann\u00e9e.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As seen in this video<\/a>, this year\u2019s end of year celebrations <\/em>are going to be different than in years past. So, how are the French going to celebrate Christmas this year? <\/em>A recent IFOP study gives us some insights.<\/p>\n

In the same study, it appears that there will also be fewer vacation trips<\/em>. A peine plus d\u2019un Fran\u00e7ais sur dix (11%) ont l\u2019intention de partir pendant les cong\u00e9s de fin d\u2019ann\u00e9e<\/strong>6<\/a><\/sup>just over 1 in 10 French plan to go away\/travel during the year end break<\/span> 11% <\/em>compared to 24% in 2019).<\/p>\n

The decrease in planned travel might have something to do with the fact that, as of the date of this blog, major European countries are planning to keep les stations de ski<\/strong> (ski resorts)<\/em> closed<\/a> for the time being. En France, Italie, et l\u2019Allemagne<\/strong>7<\/a><\/sup>In France, Italy, and Germany<\/span>\u00a0resorts will be closed while en Espagne, Andorre, Autriche, et en Suisse<\/strong>8<\/a><\/sup>in Spain, Andorra, Austria, and Switzerland\u00a0<\/span> resorts are planning to be open, making for a complicated decision process for the French government who says that les Fran\u00e7ais ne seront pas emp\u00each\u00e9s de traverser les frontiers, mais appelle au \u201cbon sens\u201d<\/strong>9<\/a><\/sup>the French won\u2019t be prevented from crossing borders, but are called on to use \u201cgood judgement\u201d<\/span>.<\/em><\/p>\n
