This year March 13th to the 21st is the Semaine de la langue fran\u00e7aise et de la Francophonie<\/b><\/a>. To celebrate, I thought I’d share some great resources for indulging your love of all things French.<\/p>\n

Un petit air de francophonie<\/h3>\n

The\u00a0Centre National du Patrimoine de la Chanson<\/strong>1<\/a><\/sup>The National Center for Music<\/em><\/span> and its Hall de la Chanson<\/strong>2<\/a><\/sup>Hall of Song<\/em><\/span> vous proposent de “[r]etrouvez chaque jours … une nouvelle chanson<\/a>“.<\/strong>3<\/a><\/sup>gives you a chance to “discover a new song each day”<\/em><\/span> It’s a great way to discover some new artists and a variety of French songs.<\/p>\n

Perhaps you would like Cortezz from the Swiss hip-hop\/funk artist Varnish la piscine<\/a>. Or maybe Bofou safou<\/a> from the Malian artists Amadou & Mariam<\/a> is more your speed. Whatever groove you choose, music is a great way to practice your language skills!<\/p>\n

Of blogs and vlogs<\/h3>\n

There are lots of great YouTubers sharing tips and tricks to help you learn French … like Parlez-vous FRENCH?<\/a> which I’ve mentioned before<\/a>. When you’re not in the mood for lessons though, you might enjoy one of these thematic blogues vid\u00e9os<\/strong>4<\/a><\/sup>video blogs<\/em> or vlogs<\/em><\/span> that will let you practice your French around a topic that you enjoy.<\/p>\n

Captain Popcorn<\/h4>\n

Captain Popcorn “est une cha\u00eene de critiques, th\u00e9ories, analyses et avis consacr\u00e9s aux films et s\u00e9ries” t\u00e9l\u00e9vis\u00e9es<\/a><\/strong>5<\/a><\/sup>a channel of critiques, theories, analysis, and opinions dedicated to films and tv series<\/em><\/span>, mostly of the superhero and fantasy genre.\u00a0Si vous aimez<\/strong>6<\/a><\/sup>If you like<\/em><\/span> Game of Thrones or the Avengers, this channel is for you.<\/p>\n

L\u00e9na Situations<\/h4>\n

L\u00e9na Situations is a 23-year old fashion and lifestyle blogger with almost 2 million subscribers to her YouTube channel<\/a>. More than just de la mode ou la d\u00e9co<\/strong>7<\/a><\/sup>fashion and design<\/em><\/span>, L\u00e9na, who is also a best-selling author, shares tips for living a positive life.<\/p>\n

Sooo Pop<\/h4>\n

Another great resource for music lovers, Sooo Pop<\/a> is a YouTube channel created by the French singer Cl\u00e9a Vincent for “les copains de la Pop fran\u00e7aise<\/strong>“.8<\/a><\/sup>friends of French pop music<\/em><\/span> You can discover live performances and interviews from some of today’s musical up-and-comers. Here’s a fun little song of Cl\u00e9a’s<\/a> to put you in the summer mood (as the weather heads towards spring here in the northern hemisphere!)<\/p>\n

C’est pas sorcier<\/h3>\n

C’est\u00a0<\/strong>(or ce n’est<\/strong>)\u00a0pas sorcier<\/strong> (lit. it’s not sorcery<\/em>)9<\/a><\/sup>Note: sorcier<\/em> actually means a sorcerer; the French word for sorcery<\/em> is la sorcellerie<\/em><\/span> is an expression that means it’s not complicated<\/em>. In English, we might say\u00a0it’s not rocket science<\/em>. It is also the name of\u00a0une<\/strong> \u00e9mission<\/strong>10<\/a><\/sup>tv show<\/em><\/span> “de la science et de la d\u00e9couverte, ludique, accessible d\u00e8s le plus jeune \u00e2ge et pour toute la famille!<\/strong><\/a>“11<\/a><\/sup>about science and discovery, fun, for the youngest and for the whole family<\/em><\/span> This episode from May 2013<\/a> highlights more of the story of Baron Haussmann and his parisian revolution<\/a> (including his expansion of les \u00e9gouts<\/strong><\/a>12<\/a><\/sup>the sewers<\/em><\/span>, the arrival of l’eau\u00a0<\/strong>courante<\/b>13<\/a><\/sup>running water<\/em><\/span>, and the construction of numerous parks) and introduces another major player in the beautification and clean up of Paris, Eug\u00e8ne Poubelle<\/a> … who literally gave his name to the handy\u00a0poubelles<\/strong>14<\/a><\/sup>waste\/trash buckets<\/em><\/span> that we use today.<\/p>\n

A new map of Paris<\/h3>\n

Le Twitto<\/strong>15<\/a><\/sup>Twitter user<\/em><\/span> Lucas Destrem<\/a> recently published un plan culturel et artistique du m\u00e9tro parisien<\/strong>16<\/a><\/sup>cultural and artistic map of the Paris metro<\/em><\/span>. He replaced the names of the metro and RER stations with nearby notable artistic and cultural places to, in his words, “[soutenir] un secteur tellement fragilis\u00e9 par las crise Covid19<\/strong>“17<\/a><\/sup>support a part of the economy that has been particularly hard hit by Covid19<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n
