It is a language that brings the world together, but also separates it with different vocabulary, different accents, and different approaches.<\/p>\n<p>A new pilot project led by the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-fake-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DGLF<\/a> aims to capture this richness and variety of French through an online, collaborative\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionnairedesfrancophones.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dictionnaire des francophones<\/strong><\/a>. Like a wiki for French terms, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dictionnairedesfrancophones.org\/presentation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>toutes les vari\u00e9t\u00e9s du fran\u00e7ais sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s ensemble et plac\u00e9es sur un pied d\u2019\u00e9galit\u00e9<\/strong><\/a>&#8220;<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"3\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669-3\">3<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669-3\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"3\"><em>all the varieties of French are presented together and on an equal footing<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/j6qf3ngE6DE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">short presentation video<\/a> will let you learn more &#8230; and see some of the people who have already contributed the unique elements of their French to the dictionary. If you want to dive in deeper, there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leplaisirdapprendre.com\/portfolio\/defis-ddf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a fun and interactive app<\/a> for phone or tablet that you can download with challenges you can solve using the contents of the dictionary.<\/p>\n<h3>A word to the weather wise<\/h3>\n<p>Speaking of international influences, the Parisian duo DjeuhDjoah &amp; Lieutenant Nicholson mix funk, afrobeat, soul, and reggae in songs like this one that celebrates the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/french-culture-afro-caribbean-edition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antilles<\/a> &#8230; while cautioning against the risks of <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/cop21-the-2015-paris-climate-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>le r\u00e9chauffement climatique<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DjeuhDjoah &amp; It&#8217;s the final flourish. In French, the expression you would use is\u00a0<em>C&#8217;est le cerise sur le g\u00e2teau.\u00a0<\/em>For the French, who generally prefer their desserts less sweet than the average American<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"8\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669-8\">8<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002ec30000000000000000_33669-8\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"8\">Yes, I know! One shouldn&#8217;t generalize!
