It was meant to commemorate the alliance and <em>amiti\u00e9<\/em> (friendship) between France and the US, especially after the American Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>The story behind the gifting of this statue known formally as<i> La Libert\u00e9 \u00e9clairant le monde<\/i> (Liberty Enlightening the World) reminds me of this iconic <i>R\u00e9volution fran\u00e7aise<\/i> quote and now French national motto:<\/p>\n<p id=\"firstHeading\" class=\"firstHeading\" style=\"text-align: center\"><i>Libert\u00e9, \u00e9galit\u00e9, fraternit\u00e9 &#8211; <\/i>Liberty, equality, fraternity<\/p>\n<p>But did you know there are actually numerous Statue of Liberty replicas in Paris?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong><em>\u00cele aux Cygnes<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>On the man-made island called <em>\u00cele aux Cygnes<\/em> stands a 37 foot replica of the Statue of Liberty gifted to France from the American ex-patriate community in Paris. The replica is facing west towards its larger version in New York City. On it two dates are written, 4 July 1776 and 14 July 1789, the dates of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in the US and the storming of the Bastille in France. <i>Libert\u00e9, \u00e9galit\u00e9, fraternit\u00e9, effectivement<\/i>! This is a newly constructed bronze replica that replaces the one that is now at the <em>Mus<span id=\"Mus\u00e9e_des_Arts_et_M\u00e9tiers\" class=\"mw-headline\">\u00e9<\/span>e D\u2019Orsay <\/em>which stood watch over the garden for over a century.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33832\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter post-item__attachment\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33832\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-33832\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/06\/liberty-5968174_960_720-350x263.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/06\/liberty-5968174_960_720-350x263.jpg 350w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/06\/liberty-5968174_960_720-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2021\/06\/liberty-5968174_960_720.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33832\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo from Pixababy, CCO.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>3.<strong><em> Mus<span id=\"Mus\u00e9e_des_Arts_et_M\u00e9tiers\" class=\"mw-headline\">\u00e9<\/span>e D\u2019Orsay<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In 1900 Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Auguste Bartholdi, the original designer of the Statue of Liberty,\u00a0crafted a smaller version for the world fair in Paris held that year. He subsequently gifted it to the <em>Mus\u00e9e du Luxembourg. <\/em>In 2014 it was moved to the <em>Mus<span id=\"Mus\u00e9e_des_Arts_et_M\u00e9tiers\" class=\"mw-headline\">\u00e9<\/span>e D\u2019Orsay.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>4. <strong><em><span id=\"Mus\u00e9e_des_Arts_et_M\u00e9tiers\" class=\"mw-headline\">Mus\u00e9e des Arts et M\u00e9tiers<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are actually two located in the <em><span id=\"Mus\u00e9e_des_Arts_et_M\u00e9tiers\" class=\"mw-headline\">Mus\u00e9e des Arts et M\u00e9tiers.<\/span><\/em> \u00a0The 9.4 ft tall original plaster maquette finished in 1878, as well as a more recent bronze replica made from the original plaster.<\/p>\n<p>This second replica has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/style\/article\/statue-liberty-france-us-travel-lon-orig-mrg\/index.html\">actually just begun its journey to the US<\/a> as a second<em> cadeau <\/em>from France to the US to once again symbolically strengthen and defend our friendship! It will be displayed in NYC next to its sister statue for the 4th of July, and then will be brought to the French ambassador&#8217;s residence in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>5. <strong>&#8220;<i>La dame de fer&#8221;<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<i>La dame de fer<\/i>&#8220;, or the Iron Lady, is the local nickname for the Eiffel tower.
