It\u2019s September. In France, that means la rentr\u00e9e<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0Here in the US, September is also National Library Card Sign-up Month<\/a>. Les biblioth\u00e8ques<\/strong>1<\/a><\/sup>Libraries<\/em>; not to be confused with les librairies<\/em> which are bookstores<\/em><\/span>\u00a0are amazing places where you can find all sorts of wonderful content \u2026 including, at many, access to Transparent Language\u2019s online learning portal. Les proverbes fran\u00e7ais<\/h3>\n

Watching the great French movie Le fabuleux destin d\u2019Am\u00e9lie Poulain<\/a> the other day reminded me of a back-to-school tradition from my days learning French.<\/p>\n

I had une prof de fran\u00e7ais<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0who liked to teach us un nouveau proverbe<\/strong>2<\/a><\/sup>a new proverb<\/em>; don\u2019t be confused by the final -e on proverbe<\/em>, it is a masculine noun<\/span> each week. Since many proverbs rely on historical and cultural context, they are a great way to flex your language muscle \u2026 and (at least according to Gina<\/a>) \u201ccelui qui conna\u00eet bien les proverbes ne peut pas \u00eatre compl\u00e8tement mauvais<\/strong>\u201d3<\/a><\/sup>Those (the one) that know(s) their\/the proverbs well, can\u2019t be all\/completely bad<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Here are the five proverbs from the film clip plus two more from my school days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
Une hirondelle ne fait pas le printemps.<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\nOne swallow doesn\u2019t make the spring.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Les Paralympiques<\/h3>\n

After Tokyo 2020(1)<\/a>, the 2020(1) Paralympic Games took place du 24 ao\u00fbt au 5 septembre 2021<\/strong>4<\/a><\/sup>from the 24th of August to the 5th of September<\/em><\/span>. Les Bleus<\/strong> preformed well and ended the two week competition in 14th position with 54 m\u00e9dailles dont \u00a011 d\u2019or, 15 d\u2019argent, et 28 m\u00e9dailles de bronze<\/strong>5<\/a><\/sup>medals including 11 gold, 15 sliver, and 28 bronze medals<\/em><\/span>, twice as many as in the 2016 Rio games.<\/p>\n

Les Bleus brought home le plus de m\u00e9dailles en tennis de table<\/strong>6<\/a><\/sup>Le saviez-vous\/did you know? Table tennis players are called pongistes<\/em> en fran\u00e7ais.<\/span> et cyclisme<\/strong>7<\/a><\/sup>the most medals in table tennis (ping pong) and cycling<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n
