A few weeks back Tim posted a blog all about emojis in French. <\/a>This week I want to talk about les textos en fran\u00e7ais.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

For some, text slang may be a nuisance that’s ‘ruining the language’ but some may argue that modern online conversations require quick and hurried responses. Love it or hate it, it’s a constantly evolving form of the language and it is here to stay.<\/p>\n

Let’s start off with some basics:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cc = Coucou. = Hey there!<\/p>\n

Slt= Salut. = Hi!<\/p>\n

Bjr = Bonjour. = Hello<\/p>\n

Bsr = Bonsoir. = Good evening<\/p>\n

Easy enough? Now let’s take a look at some more:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

MDA = Merci d’avance = Thanks in advance.<\/p>\n

Mr6 = Merci = Thanks (thx)<\/p>\n

Pk = Pourquoi = Why<\/p>\n

STP = S’il te pla\u00eet = Please<\/p>\n

Dsl = Desol\u00e9 =\u00a0 Sorry<\/p>\n

DAC = d\u2019accord = OK<\/p>\n

MDR = Mort de rire = \u2018dying of laughter\u2019 (lol)<\/p>\n

EXPDR = Explos\u00e9 de rire =\u00a0 \u2018exploding with laughter\u2019 (rofl)<\/p>\n

C = C\u2019est = it\u2019s<\/p>\n

C Ca = C\u2019est \u00e7a = that\u2019s it<\/p>\n

CT= C\u2019\u00e9tait = it was<\/p>\n

G = J\u2019ai = I have<\/p>\n

GT= J\u2019\u00e9tais = I was<\/p>\n

A+=\u00a0 \u00e0 plus tard = see you later (c u l8r)<\/p>\n

A TT = \u00e0 tout \u00e0 l’heure = Talk to you later. (ttyl)<\/p>\n

Je re = je reviens tout de suite = (brb)<\/p>\n

Koi = Quoi = What<\/p>\n

Jam\u00e8 =\u00a0 Jamais = Never<\/p>\n

Eske =\u00a0 Est-ce que\u2026 = Is it\u2026<\/p>\n

2m1 = Demain = Tomorrow<\/p>\n

Koi 2 9 =\u00a0 quoi de neuf ? = What\u2019s new?<\/p>\n

Of course none of these are necessary for yourself to use when texting, but could be helpful if you ever receive a text or are reading through a French twitter feed or any other place you may see short and very informal text in French. If you don’t know the acronym (since this isn’t an exhaustive list) I would suggest sounding it out phonetically in French. ? (For a more complete list.. check out here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n
