For their\u00a0voyage vers la France<\/strong>1<\/a><\/sup>trip to France<\/em><\/span>, the pages of the manuscript – which will be on display at the Mus\u00e9e des arts d\u00e9coratifs de Paris, jusqu\u2019au 26 juin<\/strong>2<\/a><\/sup>Museum of decorative arts in Paris through June 26<\/em><\/span> – where accompanied by Saint-Exupery\u2019s arri\u00e8re-petit-neveu<\/strong>3<\/a><\/sup>great great nephew<\/em><\/span> on un vol d\u2019Air France (bien sur!)<\/strong>4<\/a><\/sup>an Air France flight (of course!)<\/em><\/span> flown by a pilot qui se dit inspire de deviner pilote par Saint-Exupery<\/strong>5<\/a><\/sup>who says he was inspired by Saint-Exupery to become a pilot<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n Watch a video about their trip from FranceInfo here<\/a>.<\/p>\n For some, Le Petit Prince is the \u201clivre qui [leur] a donn\u00e9 envie d\u2019apprendre \u00e0 lire quand [elles \u00e9taient petites]<\/strong>\u201d6<\/a><\/sup>the book that made them want to learn to read when they were small<\/em><\/span>. This book – written by \u201cun r\u00eaveur<\/strong>\u201d7<\/a><\/sup>A dreamer<\/em><\/span> – est toujours d\u2019actualit\u00e9<\/strong>8<\/a><\/sup>is till relevant<\/em><\/span> for it\u2019s many fans<\/a>.<\/p>\n The latest edition of the JO d\u2019hiver from Beijing wrapped up last week. France ended the two week competition in 12\u00e8me<\/sup> position in the overall standings9<\/a><\/sup>10th for the number of golds<\/span> with 5 m\u00e9dailles d\u2019or, 7 m\u00e9dailles d\u2019argent, et 2 m\u00e9dailles de bronze<\/strong>10<\/a><\/sup>5 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n You can view a summary of the results here<\/a> or dig into details of all the medals across all the competitions here<\/a>. It got me thinking about another kind of\u00a0slipper<\/em> that we keep around our house. We have a basket of\u00a0pichous <\/strong>that we keep by the door in the winter for guest to wear after they take of their shoes. These knit woolen\u00a0chaussons<\/strong> (another word for\u00a0slippers<\/em>) are a staple of many Quebecois homes. The original pichous<\/strong> were a type of moccasin common among the native populations and are named for an Am\u00e9rindiens word for\u00a0lynx<\/em>.<\/a> Ours were made by my partners grand-m\u00e8re<\/strong>11<\/a><\/sup>grandmother<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n And I\u2019m not quite sure when or why, but it struck me recently that small French grocery stores are called \u00e9piceries\u00a0<\/strong>because they are descended from moyen\u00e2geux<\/strong>12<\/a><\/sup>of the Middle Ages<\/span> <\/em>sellers of\u00a0\u00e9pices<\/strong>13<\/a><\/sup>spices<\/em><\/span>.
