Eurovision<\/h3>\n

As was widely anticipated, Ukraine won the most recent edition of the Eurovision Song Contest this past weekend. \u201cLe Kalush Orchestra, dont la chanson Stefania<\/em>\u00a0m\u00eale hip-hop et musique traditionnelle, a recueilli 631 points.<\/strong><\/a>\u201d2<\/a><\/sup>The group Kalush Orchestra, whose song\u00a0Stefania mixes hip-hop with traditional music, received 631 points<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The results for France, unfortunately, were not as good. Despite a strong performance, Alban & Alex, the French group signing in Breton, where avant-derni\u00e8re au classement<\/strong>3<\/a><\/sup>second-to-last<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0\u201cSeuls les jur\u00e9s internationaux de l\u2019Arm\u00e9nie, de l\u2019Azerba\u00efdjan et de la G\u00e9orgie leur ont accord\u00e9 quelques points. Quant aux t\u00e9l\u00e9spectateurs, ils n\u2019ont distribu\u00e9 que 8 points \u00e0 la France.<\/strong><\/a>\u201d4<\/a><\/sup>Only the international juries from Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia gave them any points. As for the tv viewers, they attributed 8 points to France<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

La meilleure pizzeria d\u2019Europe<\/h3>\n

Pizza, while not French, is one of my go to foods when I\u2019m in France. While I can never really get my fill of soupe\u00a0\u00e0 l\u2019oignon, foie gras, and galettes<\/a> or a good jambon baguette with a diabolo menthe<\/a>, when I want something different, I know I can always find a good pizza in Paris.<\/p>\n

And now, apparently, next time I\u2019m in Paris, I will be able to get the best pizza \u2026 not just in Paris, but in all of Europe! A recent round up of the 50 best pizzerias in Europe<\/a> named\u00a0Giuseppe Cutraro\u2019s restaurant Peppe (rue Saint-Blaise) as the best of the best! Cutraro has a second restaurant,\u00a0Casa di Peppe, 222, rue Saint-Jacques if you can\u2019t find a spot at Pepe\u2019s.<\/p>\n

So many colors<\/h3>\n

I came across a fun report this week from RTL.fr about \u201c[l]es couleurs disparues de la langue fran\u00e7aise<\/strong>\u201d6<\/a><\/sup>the colors that have disappeared from the French language<\/em><\/span>. You can read or listent to it here<\/a>7<\/a><\/sup>In fact, a great way to practice your skills is to first listen to the recording, then read the article, then listen again. See how your understanding changes through each phase!<\/span><\/p>\n

I quite like the sound of\u00a0zinzolin<\/strong> (a reddish purple) and\u00a0smaragdin<\/strong> (a green tint, from the Greek for emerald (the stone)<\/em>) but my favorite is\u00a0gludure<\/strong> \u2026 a made up word that, according to its creator, was \u201c[l]a plus envo\u00fbtante, la plus belle de toutes [les couleurs]<\/strong>\u201d8<\/a><\/sup>the most enchanting, the most beautiful of all [the colors]<\/em> (Note: I\u2019ve translated\u00a0envo\u00fbtante\u00a0<\/em>as\u00a0enchanting<\/em>, however\u00a0bewitching\u00a0<\/em>might be more appropriate, as it comes from the French\u00a0envo\u00fbter-to put a spell on, to control as through magic.<\/em>)<\/span>\u00a0(even if it only appeared in a black and white comic that left it up to you to imagine just what\u00a0gludure<\/em> looked like!)<\/p>\n
