When I lived in France, everyone (or so it seemed) had very \u201cclassically\u201d French names like Pierre or Paul, Marie or Monique or Jean. In fact, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.parents.fr\/prenoms\/nos-conseils-prenoms\/choix-du-prenom-ce-que-la-loi-du-8-janvier-1993-a-change-304999\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>la l\u00e9gislation fran\u00e7aise \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s stricte sur la question. [Une]\u00a0loi [datant] du 11 germinal an XI (1er avril 1803) obligeait les parents \u00e0 choisir un pr\u00e9nom dans divers calendriers ou parmi les personnages de l&#8217;Histoire antique<\/strong><\/a>\u201d<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"0000000000002f0d0000000000000000_34730\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-0000000000002f0d0000000000000000_34730-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-0000000000002f0d0000000000000000_34730-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\"><em>the laws were quite strict on the question.
