Femme, as in&#8230;\u00a0<em>la Femme Nikita<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>* * * <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>* <em>Femme, comme&#8230;<\/em> (Woman, as in&#8230;):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Une jeune femme<\/span><\/strong><\/em><strong>:<\/strong> a\u00a0<strong>young woman<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une jolie <\/strong><\/em><em><strong>femme<\/strong><\/em><\/span><strong>:<\/strong> a <strong>beautiful woman<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une vieille femme:<\/strong><\/em><\/span> an <strong>old woman<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une femme m\u00fbre<\/strong><\/em><strong>: <\/strong><\/span>a <strong>mature woman<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une bonne femme<\/strong><\/em><\/span>: literally meaning a &#8220;<strong>good woman<\/strong>.&#8221; Not necessarily meant derogatorily, it has often the same meaning as you would say in English &#8220;some (random) woman&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Une future femme<\/span><\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">:<\/span><\/strong> no, it&#8217;s not a woman who comes from the future (which otherwise would be called &#8220;<strong><em>une femme du futur<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em>&#8220;) It actually\u00a0means a &#8220;<strong>wife-to-be<\/strong>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"La femme est l&#039;avenir de l&#039;homme\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MZ8d1WY27RI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>The now defunct singer Jean Ferrat (he died exactly a year ago, almost day for day) rendered the <em>maxime<\/em> of his &#8220;<em>camarade en chef&#8221; <\/em>(&#8220;comrade in chief&#8221;) and &#8220;<em>homme engag\u00e9<\/em>&#8221; (think &#8220;mild to hot&#8221; Stalinism&#8230;) Louis Aragon into a song: &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>la femme est l&#8217;avenir de l&#8217;homme<\/em><\/span>&#8221; (&#8220;Woman is the future of man&#8221;)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Or would it not be better said as &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wo<\/span>man is the future wooing of man&#8221;?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>* * *<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Une sage-femme<\/span><\/em><\/strong>: literally a &#8220;wise woman&#8221;, meaning a <strong>midwife<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une femme m\u00e9decin<\/strong><\/em><strong>:<\/strong><\/span> a\u00a0lady doctor, as in &#8220;<em><strong>Docteur Quinn, femme m\u00e9decin&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><strong>(&#8220;Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman&#8221;)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Une femme fatale<\/strong><\/em><\/span><strong>: <\/strong>is what one would call <strong>&#8220;<em>un\u00a0personnage type<\/em>&#8221; (a stock character)<\/strong>, and\u00a0carries the same meaning in English<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Docteur Quinn femme m\u00e9decin (G\u00e9n\u00e9rique)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ig-HrNH1pVA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; <em>femme fatale<\/em> -yet another role in which she &#8220;loses her head&#8221;, so to speak- in the less highbrow comedy <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/tag\/films-celebres\/\">&#8220;<em>Serial noceurs<\/em>&#8221;
