YELLE consists of a singer (named Yelle), a writer, and a producer who make crazy French electropop. Their first track was released on MySpace in 2005, and for me it\u2019s still their biggest <em>tube<\/em>. \u201cJe Veux Te Voir\u201d is wild, fun, bouncy, and good for screaming along to\u2014<em>si vous comprenez les mots&#8211;<\/em>if\u00a0 you understand the words! It\u2019s also a really funny dis track, written to insult another French group known for misogynistic lyrics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJe Veux Te Voir\u201d is <em>assez vulgaire<\/em>, but contains some gems of French slang. Song lyrics are my favorite way to learn new words (I swear Shakira taught me Spanish), so let\u2019s see what we can learn from YELLE\u00a0!<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t go looking for the English translation if you\u2019re likely to be offended by the off-color nature of the song, but here are some clips that are safe for mass consumption. Again, <em>il ne s\u2019agit pas de la grande litt\u00e9rature. <\/em><em>C\u2019est juste pour rire\u2014<\/em>it\u2019s just to laugh\u2014and learn\u00a0! (If you\u2019re looking for the English,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.songmeanings.net\/songs\/view\/3530822107858752131\/\">this<\/a> is the best translation I found, though it\u2019s not perfect.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FsrN3qxX2Yw\">http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FsrN3qxX2Yw<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Les paroles int\u00e9grales suivent<\/em> (the full lyrics follow) <em>mais voici mes moments pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s<\/em> (but here are my favorite moments). The whole song is insulting Cuiziner, a rapper with the group TTC. If there\u2019s someone out there you\u2019re looking to insult, I highly suggest you pay attention.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Je n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2019<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>arrive pas \u00e0 croire que tu puisses croire qu<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2019<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>on veuille de toi<\/em><\/strong><strong> :<\/strong>I can\u2019t believe you think anyone wants you. (<em>\u00ab\u00a0Je n\u2019arrive pas\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> or <em>\u00ab\u00a0J\u2019arrive pas\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> is maybe the phrase I say most in French\u00a0: I can\u2019t do it.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Tu r\u00eaves d<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2019un Hummer fluo \/ Dessin\u00e9e par Akroe \/ Mais tu n<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2019as pas le permis \/ Tu prends toujours le m\u00e9tro\u00a0:<\/em> <\/strong>You dream of a fluorescent Hummer \/ Designed by Akroe (French graphic designer and artist) \/ But you don\u2019t have your driver\u2019s licence \/ You still take the metro. (Burn! To me, this is the most fun part to sing along to, <em>m\u00eame si les Hummer sont nuls<\/em>\u2014even if Hummers are lame.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>On avait pas pr\u00e9vu de passer la soir<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u00e9e avec des rigolos\u00a0:<\/em> <\/strong>We hadn\u2019t planned to spend the evening with clowns. (\u201cRigolo\u201d can be an adjective to mean fun or funny- Hichem, concur?- or a noun. I know it doesn\u2019t seem like a real word, but it is.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Te faire ridiculiser par une fille qui rappe mieux que toi \/ J<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u2019ai pas assez de mes 10 doigts pour les compter dans la salle \/ Toutes ces filles coiff\u00e9es comme moi qui savent ce que tu vaux \u00e0 poil\u00a0:<\/em> <\/strong>Make yourself look ridiculous by a girl who raps better than you \/ My 10 fingers aren\u2019t enough to count in the room \/ All these girls with hair like me who know what you\u2019re worth naked.
