Of course, this is un\u00a0clin d’\u0153i<\/em>l humouristique\u00a0<\/em>(a\u00a0humorous\u00a0wink or allusion) to Jennie’s previous post, “Yelle if you love Fridays!”<\/a><\/p>\n

Jennie is right, YELLE<\/strong>‘s songs\u00a0were all of a sudden\u00a0heard “all over” in France, and\u00a0even reaching other European countries\u00a0and the United-States: “Elle d\u00e9frayait la chronique”, <\/em>as the French expression goes. And like Jennie mentioned, she owed her succ\u00e8s fou <\/em>(big success) to\u00a0“un coup de gueule” <\/em>(in this case, a “diss song<\/strong>“)\u00a0directed against the\u00a0French rap group called TTC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

TTC “vs.” YELLE?<\/h2>\n

Just like “YELLE”, the name “TTC” is also an acronym, composed of the initials of the names of the\u00a0group members. But as\u00a0we will see,\u00a0the “ressemblance” between the two groups\u00a0does not stop here.\u00a0First,\u00a0the word “TTC” in French\u00a0usually stands for\u00a0the\u00a0financial term “Toutes Taxes Comprises<\/strong><\/em>“, meaning “All Taxes Included.” Second, if you remember\u00a0from\u00a0the B.A.-BA de l’Argot<\/a> <\/em>(the ABC of French Slang) that\u00a0the word “fric” <\/strong><\/em>(or “FRI\u20ac”, as in “CA$H”)\u00a0means “money”, you will not have too much of a hard time to translate the “(p<\/em><\/strong>)unny”\u00a0title of this post: “Yell\u00a0if you like money the TTC way”…<\/p>\n

In fact, some\u00a0producteurs de musique<\/em>\u00a0(music producers) and\u00a0observateurs des m\u00e9dias<\/em>\u00a0(media watchdogs) have already “yelled” -like the title of this post\u00a0says- “\u00e0 tue-t\u00eate<\/strong>“<\/em>, an experssion meaning “<\/em>at the top of\u00a0one’s lungs”, but literally meaning “killing a head”, which in turn\u00a0should allow you\u00a0to appreciate\u00a0le jeu de mot<\/em>\u00a0(the pun) even further, since, like Jenny said, the songs in question are far from being remotely\u00a0classy or\u00a0“intellectually challenging”…\u00a0The\u00a0music producers were of course\u00a0“yelling”\u00a0out of\u00a0sheer happiness to have made so much “fric”<\/em>, while\u00a0the\u00a0media watchdogs\u00a0were yelling more out of outrage (in French it’s called “crier au scandale”<\/em>),\u00a0for the way that fric<\/em> was made!

Dialectique cart\u00e9sienne… en marketing!<\/h2>\n

The two music groups, TTC and YELLE,\u00a0seem to\u00a0stand as diametrical\u00a0opposites,\u00a0or\u00a0tr\u00e8s commod\u00e9ment oppos\u00e9s <\/em>(very conveniently\u00a0opposed) to each other… and that is exactly the point, bien entendu <\/em>(of course)!<\/p>\n

In fact, it’s really no big\u00a0surprise to find out that the\u00a0maison de disque <\/em>(the music label)\u00a0which lately produced\u00a0TTC, after they\u00a0became more or less\u00a0“tendance<\/em>” (“mainstream”, that is), was spun off from the very same\u00a0conglom\u00e9rat musical<\/em>\u00a0which immediately\u00a0happenned to be the one producing –devniez qui?<\/em> (guess who?)-\u00a0YELLE as well…<\/em><\/p>\n

Cela n’a au fond rien de tr\u00e8s machiavelique<\/em> (that in fact\u00a0is not too machiavellian), but\u00a0the\u00a0marketing device\u00a0can be summarized as follows: You provide la th\u00e8se<\/strong><\/em> (the thesis), which is in this case the group “TTC”; then you promote\u00a0l’antith\u00e8se<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(the antithesis), allegedly\u00a0“opposed” to\u00a0the thesis that you have\u00a0yourself previously manufactur\u00e9 <\/em>(manufactured)… And la synth\u00e8se<\/strong> <\/em>(the sythesis)? La synth\u00e8se<\/em> is\u00a0tout simplement <\/em>(very simply) le fric <\/em>that you\u00a0reap from this\u00a0clever form of\u00a0“dialectique\u00a0de marketing”<\/em>!<\/p>\n

En guise de conclusion <\/em>(as a conclusion), the “feud” TTC vs. YELLE<\/strong> has less to do with any sort of “bataille des <\/strong><\/em>sexes<\/strong>” (“battle of the sexes”), masculin vs. f\u00e9minin<\/em>, or even “macho against feminist”,\u00a0but rather -you’ve guessed it-\u00a0with le fric<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The French\u00a0say: “L’argent n’a pas d’odeur<\/em>“, meaning that “money has no smell.” They should also\u00a0add that, as far as marketing strategies are concerned,\u00a0money has no gender<\/strong>\u00a0either…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"FRIC\"
