{"id":6055,"date":"2011-05-06T09:24:44","date_gmt":"2011-05-06T13:24:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=6055"},"modified":"2017-10-19T14:12:11","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T12:12:11","slug":"secrets-de-l%e2%80%99art-magique-surrealiste-secrets-of-the-magical-surrealist-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/secrets-de-l%e2%80%99art-magique-surrealiste-secrets-of-the-magical-surrealist-art\/","title":{"rendered":"Secrets de l\u2019art magique surr\u00e9aliste (Secrets of the Magical Surrealist Art)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday&#8217;s post, &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/surrealisme-of-andre-breton-la-chute-libre-dans-le-subconscient-the-free-fall-into-the-subconscious\/\"><em>Surr\u00e9alisme<\/em> of Andr\u00e9 Breton: \u201c<em>La chute libre dans le subconscient<\/em>\u201d (\u201c<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/surrealisme-of-andre-breton-la-chute-libre-dans-le-subconscient-the-free-fall-into-the-subconscious\/\">The Free Fall into the Subconscious<\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/surrealisme-of-andre-breton-la-chute-libre-dans-le-subconscient-the-free-fall-into-the-subconscious\/\">\u201d)<\/a><\/strong>&#8220;, introduced a general idea of what &#8220;<em><strong>le<\/strong> <strong>surr\u00e9alisme<\/strong><\/em>&#8221; is, and described the Surrealist call to give <strong><em>carte blanche <\/em><\/strong>(or &#8220;free rein&#8221;)\u00a0to one&#8217;s subconscious, in the manner that was expressed by <strong><em>le chef de file <\/em><\/strong>(the leader) of this movement, the Frenchman\u00a0<strong>Andr\u00e9 Breton<\/strong>,\u00a0as well as many of his followers, such as the deliberately eccentric\u00a0<strong>Salvador Dal\u00ed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Salvador Dal\u00ed was<em> un adepte de la <em>premi\u00e8re <\/em>heure <\/em>(an early adept) of Surrealism. \u00a0According to his autobiographical &#8220;Secret Life&#8221;, his now iconic &#8220;Persistence of Memory&#8221; (picture above) was suggested to him by watching a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/can-you-say-fromage-meet-monsieur-camembert\/\">Camembert <\/a><\/em>cheese slowly melting in the <em>chaleur <\/em>(heat) of the\u00a0Summer<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Later, Dal\u00ed was formally &#8220;excommunicated&#8221; by Breton and the Surrealists, who accused him, among other charges, of excessive greed, and gave me him the unflattering nickname (based on an anagram of his name) of &#8220;Avida Dollars&#8221;&#8212;To be phonetically interpreted in French as &#8220;Avid For Dollar$&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Another episode, less &#8220;colorful&#8221; this time, and still largely ignored, pertaining to the &#8220;Surrealist experience&#8221; of Dal\u00ed, is the one related to his alleged &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/la-plume-de-ma-tante-my-aunts-pen\/\">exorcism<\/a>&#8221; in France, shortly after WWII<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Today, you are invited to discover<strong><em>, dans le texte original <\/em><\/strong>(in the original text), together with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryintranslation.com\/PITBR\/French\/Manifesto.htm#_Toc257115922\/\">English translation offered by <strong>A.S.
