Whether it’s in French or in English, les pronoms<\/em><\/strong> (pronouns)\u00a0belong to\u00a0one of those classes grammaticales<\/span><\/a> <\/em><\/strong>that many people seem to often have a hard time remembering what they are, or what they are supposed to stand for.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here in The\u00a0French Blog<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0the goal is always to try\u00a0-and, hopefully, succeed<\/span> <\/strong>too- to give you the best astuces<\/strong><\/em> (tricks) to learn something well—and remember it for good!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

* Qu’est-ce que les pronoms <\/em>(What are pronouns), au juste <\/em>(precisely)? <\/strong><\/span>Acording to etymonline.com<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/em>, the definition of a pronoun is as follows:<\/strong>pronoun<\/span><\/a> 1520s, from pro-<\/span><\/a> and noun<\/span><\/a>; modeled on M.Fr. pronom, from L. pronomen, from pro- “in place of” + nomen “name, noun.” A loan-translation of Gk. antonymia. Adj. pronomial is recorded from 1640s.\u00a0Like Jean-Paul Belmondo, quickly become “un vrai pro<\/span>” des pro<\/span>noms<\/em> (Become a “real pro<\/span>” of pro<\/span>nouns)!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From this definition, we can see clearly that un pronom <\/em><\/strong>is in fact breakable like this:<\/span><\/p>\n

PRONOM = PRO + NOM<\/strong> <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

(PRONOUN = PRO + NOUN)<\/span><\/p>\n


\nMeaning that its purpose is to REPLACE A NOUN!<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n


\n* Prenons un exemple <\/em>(let us take an example):<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

– “<\/span>J’aime beaucoup le French Blog<\/span>. Le French Blog<\/span> est le seul Blog en fran\u00e7ais dont le contenu offre autant de vari\u00e9t\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>!” <\/em><\/strong>(Meaning: “I like the French Blog. The French Blog is the only Blog in French whose content offers as much variety!”) \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n

As you noticed, un pronom <\/em><\/strong>(a pronoun) would serve the purpose of avoiding la r\u00e9p\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>tition<\/em><\/strong><\/span>. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

So instead of <\/span>the previous phrase <\/em><\/strong>(sentence), it is possible to replace “le French Blog<\/strong><\/em>” by a pronoun that would assume the same genre <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>(gender) and\u00a0nombre <\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>(number), which in this case are <\/span>masculin <\/em><\/strong>for the former, and singulier <\/em><\/strong>for the latter:<\/span>
