{"id":7380,"date":"2011-06-16T21:56:59","date_gmt":"2011-06-17T01:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/?p=7380"},"modified":"2017-10-19T14:22:03","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T12:22:03","slug":"have-you-ever-tasted-a-ratatouille-the-french-dish-not-the-pixar-movie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/have-you-ever-tasted-a-ratatouille-the-french-dish-not-the-pixar-movie\/","title":{"rendered":"Have you ever tasted Ratatouille?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Whether or not they enjoyed watching the eponymous Pixar computer-animated movie, many people find the taste of the French dish &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Ratatouille<\/em><\/span>&#8221; to be &#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-sarkozy-turned-borat-says-give-me-your-tears-le-gypsy\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">very <\/span><\/a><\/em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/a-sarkozy-turned-borat-says-give-me-your-tears-le-gypsy\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">niiice<\/span><\/a><\/em>&#8220;<\/span>&#8212;A fact that turns out to make perfect sense, considering that the birthplace of the Ratatouille happens to be in the\u00a0<em>C\u00f4te d&#8217;Azur <\/em>(French Riviera) city of <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">NICE <\/span>!<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Sans transition <\/em>(without further ado),\u00a0here is how to prepare a <em>Ratatouille, <\/em>serving up to 6 persons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">* Les ingredients<\/span><\/em>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 lb <em>aubergines <\/em>(eggplant)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 lb\u00a0<em>courgettes<\/em> (zucchini)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 tb <em>huile d&#8217;olive <\/em>(olive oil)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1\/2 lb <em>onions jaunes <\/em>(yellow onions)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 <em>gousses d&#8217;ail <\/em>(cloves of\u00a0garlic) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 lb <em>tomate <\/em>(tomatoes)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 tb <em>persil <\/em>(parsley)\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ratatouille Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c3sBBRxDAqk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\"><em>*\u00a0\u00c9tapes de pr\u00e9paration (Preparation steps):<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Peel then cut <em>les aubergines <\/em>(the eggplants) into long slices, and cut the zucchini into slices too, but don&#8217;t peel them! Then put them all in a bowl. Put on <em>un peu d&#8217;eau <\/em>(some water), and leave it for 30 minutes, then drain.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Saut\u00e9<\/em> the eggplant and <em>les courgettes <\/em>(zucchini) with <em>l&#8217;huile d&#8217;olive <\/em>(oil) in a skillet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>C<\/em>ook the onions with olive oil in the skillet for 10 minutes over moderate heat. Stir in <em>l&#8217;ail <\/em>(the garlic.) Add <em>du sel et du poivre <\/em>(salt and pepper.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Peel <em>les tomates <\/em>(the tomatoes), and boil them for half a minute. Cut into <em>des morceaux <\/em>(slices.) Lay them over the onions in the skillet. Cover, and cook over <em>petit feu <\/em>(low heat) for about 5 minutes, then uncover. Pour <em>le jus <\/em>(the juice) from the the skillet over the tomatoes. Raise heat and boil for <em>plusieurs minutes<\/em> (several minutes) until the juice starts evaporating.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Put 1\/3 of the tomatoes mixture into <em>une casserole<\/em>. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of <em>persil <\/em>(parsley.) Then put half of the eggplant and zucchini. Then another third of tomatoes. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of parsley. Put <em>le reste <\/em>(the remaining) of the eggplant and zucchini, then the tomatoes and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of parsley.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Cover and simmer over low heat for about ten minutes, then uncover. Pour <em>le jus <\/em>(again,\u00a0the juice) over <em>les l\u00e9gumes<\/em> (the vegetables.) Raise the heat to moderate and cook uncovered for 15 minutes.
