If you spent the past two weeks or so in Paris, you’ll know that le temps <\/em><\/strong>(the weather) did not exactly “spoil” the Parisians—Together with the millions of tourists who flocked into France to visit the French capital!<\/p>\n

But actually, since yesterday, the Paris <\/a>weather has decided to take it easy for a bit. Much to the delight of the fans who came to see le lancement<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(the launching) of this year’s Paris-Plages<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/span>\u00a0edition:\u00a0La dixi\u00e8me <\/em><\/strong>(the tenth), to be precise!<\/p>\n

What is\u00a0Paris-Plages<\/strong><\/em>?<\/p>\n

It’s three kilometers<\/strong> of transformed quays, equipped with almost 2000\u00a0transats<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(beach chairs) and other pieces of furniture, and boast some\u00a015\u00a0<\/strong>restaurants and\u00a0buvettes\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(refreshment areas.)<\/p>\n

It’s true, the Paris Beach fans are not as numerous as the previous years. Instead of les maillots de bains <\/strong><\/em>(the swimsuits) and les parasols <\/em><\/strong>(beach umbrellas), you could mostly see the odd spectacle of\u00a0les parapluies <\/strong><\/em>(rain umbrellas) covering les quais<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(the quays) of the Seine River!<\/strong><\/p>\n

In such climatic conditions, people tend to discover another face of Paris-Plages<\/strong><\/em>, while secretly hoping that a better weather is just around the corner—very soon de pr\u00e9f\u00e9<\/em><\/strong>rence\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>!<\/em><\/p>\n

En attendant<\/strong><\/em> (in the meantime), the amateurs of this Summery\u00a0rendez-vous <\/em><\/strong>can find solace in the numerous\u00a0activit\u00e9s<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0graciously offered to them for the occasion.<\/p>\n

Some like doing un peu de v\u00e9lo<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, others do their footing du matin <\/strong><\/em>or du soir<\/em><\/strong>. The younger ones, however, enjoy giving free reign to their “constructive” power of imagination, by building “original”\u00a0ch\u00e2teaux de sable <\/strong><\/em>(sandcastles.)<\/p>\n

La nouveau trait\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(the new feature) of this year’s\u00a0Paris-Plages <\/strong><\/em>is the participation of Disneyland Paris<\/strong><\/span>. The French subsidiary of Disney has in fact taken the construction of\u00a0les ch\u00e2teaux de sable\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>to a whole new level, by reproducing the famous castle of\u00a0la Belle au bois dormant<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(Sleeping Beauty)—Sept m\u00e8tres de haut<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0(seven meters high)!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Seven talented\u00a0sculpteurs <\/strong><\/em>(sculptors)\u00a0hailing from la<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0France<\/strong><\/em>, l’Italie<\/a><\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0and la Russie<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, were assigned this task, which they must complete within a delay of five days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The chef d’\u00e9quipe\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>(head of the team) admitted that la pluie <\/em><\/strong>(the rain) was a major challenge, and caused the constructors a few headaches, but he remains confident about the success of the project.<\/p>\n

The Paris-Plages <\/strong><\/em>fun will last an entire month: Until le 21 ao\u00fbt <\/em><\/strong><\/span>(the 21st of August)!<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\"\"
