Going to a Caf\u00e9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have just read in my international edition of Newsweek that the French government is going to lower its tax rate by 72% on food and drinks at restaurants and caf\u00e9s this summer hoping that people will start frequenting the country&#8217;s beloved caf\u00e9s again as many are closing due to the financial crisis. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/french\/goodbye-to-french-cafes\/\" target=\"_blank\">I wrote an article about this some months back.<\/a> \u00a0So, since many of you might be some of those that enjoy that tax cut when on vacation this year, I thought I would give you some vocabulary to help you order.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>un Vittel<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; a famous French brand of mineral water, you can order it even if you just mean you want mineral water<br \/>\n<strong><em>un Perrier (citron)<\/em><\/strong> &#8211; a famous French brand of carbonated mineral water which you can now get lemon and lime flavored<br \/>\n<em><strong>une menthe \u00e0 l&#8217;eau<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; this is mineral water with a little bit of mint-flavored syrup<br \/>\n<em><strong>un Coca<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a Coke as in Coca Cola<br \/>\n<em><strong>un Orangina<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; this is an orange and mandarin citrus soda which is very popular in France<br \/>\n<em><strong>une limonade<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; something like 7Up or Sprite<br \/>\n<em><strong>un citron press\u00e9<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; lemonade<br \/>\n<em><strong>une orange press\u00e9<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; like lemonade, but made with oranges (ice, freshly-squeezed orange juice, chilled water and sugar)<br \/>\n<em><strong>un jus d&#8217;orange<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; orange juice<br \/>\n<em><strong>un diabolo menthe<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0&#8211; lemonade and mint syrup<br \/>\n<em><strong>une bi\u00e8re allemande<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; German beer<br \/>\n<em><strong>une bi\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; French beer<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888\"><strong>un demi<\/strong><\/span><\/em> &#8211; 1\/4 liter of draught beer<br \/>\n<em><strong>un kir<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a drink made of cassis liqueur and a little white wine<br \/>\n<em><strong>un verre de rouge<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a glass of red wine<br \/>\n<em><strong>un verre de blanc<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a glass of white wine<br \/>\n<em><strong>un lait fraise<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; a thin, strawberry milk shake<br \/>\n<em><strong>un lait au chocolat<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; chocolate milk<br \/>\n<em><strong>un chocolat chaud<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; hot chocolate<br \/>\n<em><strong>un express<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; espresso coffee<br \/>\n<em><strong>un caf\u00e9 au lait<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; coffee with milk, served in a larger cup (normally for breakfast)<br \/>\n<em><strong>un caf\u00e9 cr\u00e8me<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; coffee with milk, but served in a smaller cup<br \/>\n<em><strong>un th\u00e9 citron<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0&#8211; tea with lemon<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #888888\"><em><strong>un th\u00e9 nature<\/strong><\/em><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; just normal tea<br \/>\n<em><strong>un th\u00e9 au lait<\/strong><\/em> &#8211;
