Le<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0B.A.-BA de l’Argot<\/strong><\/em> (The ABC of French Slang<\/strong>) is back, and today, it’s with la lettre F<\/strong><\/em>, containing a long r\u00e9pertoire<\/em> of words and expressions which you will surely like to learn and memorize, and more importantly, above all else, to\u00a0recognize, whether in reading or hearing.<\/p>\n

“F comme…”<\/em><\/strong>http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=olErJ71rDSk<\/a><\/p>\n

* Fan\/Fana:<\/span>
\n<\/strong>‘Fana’ <\/em>is basically identical in meaning\u00a0to the English word\u00a0“fan”, and both “fana<\/em>” and “fan”\u00a0come originally from the word “fanatique” (fanatic), so\u00a0they naturally mean someone who is\u00a0a “big fan” of\u00a0something. Par exemple<\/em>: “Je suis un fana du foot<\/em>“,\u00a0or “Jennie\u00a0est une fana de la haute cuisine.<\/em>”
\nAn iconic French TV show that resembles “American Idol<\/em>” and focusing on young kids is\u00a0called “l’\u00c9cole des fans.<\/em>”
\n<\/strong>Above\u00a0is a preview (or like the French sometimes say: “Ze very best of”…) of the show.
\nBelow, also in “l’\u00c9cole des fans<\/em>“,\u00a0you can see a young Vanessa Paradis<\/strong>, of “Joe le Taxi<\/strong>” fame,\u00a0making her very first public appearance:

* Fastoche:
\n<\/span><\/em><\/strong>As in “C’est fastoche!<\/em>” (“It’s easy!”),\u00a0which is close to\u00a0“facile<\/em>” (easy.)
\nSome synonymous slang\u00a0expressions\u00a0of “fastoche” are “ce n’est pas sorcier<\/strong><\/em>” (“No magic trick”), or “facile comme bonjour<\/strong><\/em>.”
\nHere’s an episode of the cartoon\u00a0“Toto” <\/strong>titled “Trop fastoche” <\/em>(“Too easy”): First “sans les pieds<\/em>” (“no feet”), then “sans les mains<\/em>” (“no hands”), et apr\u00e8s <\/em>(and then)…

* Fauch\u00e9:<\/span><\/em><\/strong>
\nWhether it is une personne <\/em>(a person) who is fauch\u00e9e<\/em>, or une entreprise <\/em>(a company), or un gouvernement <\/em>(a government), which by the way wouldn’t come as a surprise in these times of crise fianci\u00e8re <\/em>(financial crisis), no one is 100% safe from being compl\u00e8tement<\/em> fauch\u00e9<\/em>, i.e. “completely broke.”<\/p>\n

* Faux jeton:<\/span><\/em><\/strong>
\nLiterally means a “fake token”, and standing for a hypocritical or a disingenious person, a “fake”.<\/p>\n

* F\u00eal\u00e9:<\/em><\/span>
\n<\/strong>“F\u00eal\u00e9” is just like “zinzin<\/em>“, “maboul<\/em>“, “cingl\u00e9<\/em>“, “malade<\/em>“, “disjonct\u00e9<\/em>“, “d\u00e9sax\u00e9<\/em>“, “timbr\u00e9<\/em>“, “dingue<\/em>” or\u00a0“foldingue<\/em>“,\u00a0which are all\u00a0many ways of saying that someone or somthing is “crazy.”

“Sonn\u00e9<\/em>“, “d\u00e9glingu\u00e9”, “d\u00e9phas\u00e9”<\/em>, also mean “fou” (crazy.)<\/p>\n

Of course, we won’t end this post today without un clin d’oeil <\/em>(a “wink”) towards la Coupe du Monde. <\/em>Here is an example of a coach becoming “f\u00eal\u00e9” <\/em><\/strong>because of his team: In this case, it’s the Italian Fabio Capello<\/em><\/strong>, the England coach, nearly losing his mind during the game against\u00a0the Algerian\u00a0Fennecs.<\/em>Is he screaming: “Pass the ball<\/strong>” or asking\u00a0for\u00a0a “Pasta Bowl<\/strong>“<\/em> (anyone?)
