But there is also something not that\u00a0<em>besonders\u00a0<\/em>about this <em>Sommer<\/em>: In general, more and more Germans say:\u00a0<em>Es gibt immer weniger Insekten\u00a0<\/em>(There are fewer and fewer insects). Some claim that they had to start the\u00a0<em>Scheibenwischer\u00a0<\/em>(windshield wiper) to remove all the\u00a0<em>Insekten\u00a0<\/em>from their\u00a0<em>Frontscheibe\u00a0<\/em>a few years ago. Now, they may have just a single\u00a0<em>Fleck\u00a0<\/em>(spot).\u00a0<em>Aber stimmt das wirklich\u00a0<\/em>(but is that really true)? Germans found an\u00a0<em>au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Art\u00a0<\/em>(extraordinary way) to\u00a0<em>untersuchen\u00a0<\/em>(research) that. <em>Z\u00e4hl&#8217; sie einfach\u00a0<\/em>(just count them)!<\/p>\n<h2>\u00a0<em><strong>Insektensommer 2018<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mach mit! Deutschland z\u00e4hlt die Insekten\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rt8l1tsndII?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>Naturschutzbund Deutschland<\/em>\u00a0(Nature Conversation Association Germany), or NABU wanted to figure out how many insects are truly left in Germany, as there is no good data on this. And instead of just letting\u00a0<em>Experten\u00a0<\/em>(experts) do the work, NABU\u00a0<em>ruft alle auf\u00a0<\/em>(is calling upon everybody) to take\u00a0<em>eine Stunde\u00a0<\/em>(one hour) and to count\u00a0<em>Insekten.<\/em>\u00a0What better way to count them, if not all people in Germany?<\/p>\n<p>The best conditions are if it is\u00a0<em>sonnig\u00a0<\/em>(sunny) and\u00a0<em>windstill\u00a0<\/em>(calm to no wind). That is when\u00a0<em>Insekten\u00a0<\/em>like to come out!<\/p>\n<p>But there are 33,000 <em>Insektena<\/em><em>rten\u00a0<\/em>( insect species) known to live in Germany &#8211; how do you know which exact one you found? For that, you can use the mobile app\u00a0<em>Insektenwelt\u00a0<\/em>(Insect World), which lets you scan an\u00a0<em>Insekt\u00a0<\/em>to identify it!<\/p>\n<p>The first\u00a0<em>Z\u00e4hlung\u00a0<\/em>(counting) took place 1. &#8211; 10. of June this year, and the second is 3. &#8211; 12. of August. So that is right now! So you can participate too &#8211; as long as you are in Germany, that is. But why not try it elsewhere too? It is a great way to learn about German\u00a0<em>Insekten<\/em>, and what we call them! What do we call them?
