NO WAY you are going there &#8211;\u00a0<em>ABSOLUT NICHT!\u00a0<\/em>(absolutely not!). So you tell her &#8211; horses won&#8217;t get you there. Horses?<\/p>\n<p>The origin seems quite obvious. Horses have been used as\u00a0<em>Nutztiere\u00a0<\/em>(working animal), especially as\u00a0<em>Zugtiere\u00a0<\/em>(draft animals) and\u00a0<em>Transportmittel\u00a0<\/em>(means of transportation). So they are known to be\u00a0<em>stark\u00a0<\/em>(strong), that were common to bring people and move things everywhere. And in a much faster way with more capacity than humans.<\/p>\n<p>So if not even\u00a0<em>zehn\u00a0<\/em>(ten)\u00a0<em>Pferde\u00a0<\/em>(horses) can get you somewhere or get you to do something&#8230; Well then you must\u00a0<em>really, really\u00a0<\/em>be resisting.<\/p>\n<p>Example<em>:<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Schau dir den Berg an! Ziemlich hoch&#8230; W\u00fcrdest du da hoch klettern? &#8211; Bist du verr\u00fcckt? Dahin bringen mich keine zehn Pferde!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>(Look at that mountain! Quite tall&#8230; Would you climb up there? &#8211; are you crazy? It refers to somebody that is reliable, trustworthy, somebody with whom you can do something extraordinary, difficult or crazy. Or simply a great friend.<\/p>\n<p>But why stealing horses? What is all that about?<\/p>\n<p>Well, as said above,\u00a0<em>Pferde\u00a0<\/em>were valuable back in the day. They made transport much more efficient. So it makes sense that they were desirable and\u00a0 very well-guarded. And stealing horses was punished very harshly.<\/p>\n<p>So if there is somebody that you could steal horses with&#8230; That is dangerous, an adventure! And you need somebody you can trust, that is reliable for it to work. Makes sense!<\/p>\n<p>I think this is such a wonderful expression because of its mystic feel. Stealing horses sounds like such an adventure! Of course you would never do it, but knowing there is a person you could even do such a thing with, because they have your back&#8230; It has something magical about it.<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p><em>Giuseppe ist ein toller Freund. Er l\u00e4sst mich nie h\u00e4ngen. Mit ihm kann man wirklich Pferde stehlen!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Giuseppe is a wonderful friend. He never lets me down.
