Early in the morning (6 a.m. CET) yesterday, Alexander Gerst landed with two\u00a0Kollegen\u00a0<\/em>(colleagues) with their Soyuz capsule in Kazakhstan. After being fished out of the capsule and a few check-ups, the Astronauten\u00a0<\/i>(astronauts)\u00a0were received alive and well. What did we learn from Alexander Gerst, and what did his time in space mean?<\/p>\n

Alexander Gerst was the first German Commander of the ISS, and the longest a German has ever been in the\u00a0Weltraum\u00a0<\/em>(outer space). By many he is seen as very\u00a0charismatisch <\/em>(charismatic), and\u00a0vereinend\u00a0<\/em>(unifying). He talks about topics that concern us all, and that are very much related to the our Zukunft\u00a0<\/em>(future).<\/p>\n

But apart from being a\u00a0Botschafter\u00a0<\/em>(ambassador), Alexander Gerst was also aboard the space station for many\u00a0wissenschaftliche Experimente\u00a0<\/em>(scientific experiments)<\/p>\n

During his stay\u00a0im All\u00a0<\/em>(in space), he shot some memorable pictures and shared them with the world. For example, the following about\u00a0Taifun\u00a0<\/em>(typhoon) Trami, which killed at least two and injured many more.<\/p>\n

He says “As if somebody pulled a gigantic plug out of the Earth. View into the eye of another raging storm. Category 5 super typhoon Trami is unstoppable on its way to Japan and Taiwan. Take care of yourselves down there!”<\/p>\n

Astro-Alex<\/em>, how he is often also lovingly called, ended his stay with a\u00a0r\u00fchrende Nachricht\u00a0<\/em>(moving message) addressing his\u00a0Enkelkinder\u00a0<\/em>(grandchildren).
