In this post, we will look in more depth at the phrase <strong>\u2018Passt schon\u2019.<\/strong> This literally translates to \u2018Fits already\u2019, \u2018Fits yet\u2019 or \u2018Does fit\u2019. But what this little phrase actually means is <strong>\u2018it\u2019s OK\u2019, \u2018no worries\u2019, \u2018it\u2019s all good\u2019, \u2018never mind\u2019<\/strong> &#8211; and so on &#8211; all depending on the context it&#8217;s used in.<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of ways you can use the handy phrase <strong>Passt schon <\/strong>(note that, when pronounced, the emphasis is on the word <em>passt<\/em> rather than the word <em>schon<\/em>).<\/p>\n<h3>Example one<\/h3>\n<p>You could say it when paying your bill in a restaurant, to signal to the waiter that they can keep the change. Tut mir echt Leid!\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Passt schon.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018I forgot it. I\u2019m so sorry!\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018No worries.\u2019<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Example four<\/h3>\n<p>You could say it when someone asks if you\u2019re ill, and you want to let them know you\u2019re alright \u2013 that it\u2019s not a big deal.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u2018Bist du krank? Vielleicht sollten wir es heute nicht tun&#8230;\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Nein &#8211; passt schon.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Are you ill? Perhaps we shouldn\u2019t do it today&#8230;\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018No \u2013 it\u2019s nothing.\u2019<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>Example five<\/h3>\n<p>Or simply, it can be a way of responding to the question <em>How are you?<\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u2018Wie geht\u2019s?\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Ehhh, passt schon\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018How are you?\u2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2018Ehhh, OK I guess\u2019.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So when things are &#8216;all good&#8217;, remember this little phrase<strong> &#8216;passt schon&#8217;<\/strong>! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Some other things to consider:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You may also hear people leave out the second word, <em>schon<\/em>, and just say<strong><em> passt<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In Bavaria and Austria you may hear it pronounced more like <strong>\u2018Basst scho\u2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Be aware, too, that the word <strong>schon<\/strong> is totally different to the word <strong>sch\u00f6n<\/strong>.
