Last time we looked at 4 ways German &amp; English are different from one another. This time, I&#8217;m giving you four ways that German and English are similar to one another. The Germanic language family has several sub-categories, and both German and English are in the West Germanic sub-category.<\/p>\n<h3>They have the same alphabet<\/h3>\n<p>Both German and English use the Latin alphabet, consisting of 26 letters.The only difference is that German has an extra four: \u00e4 \u00f6 \u00fc and \u00df. Here are some examples. See if you can get all of their translations right (the answers are at the bottom of this post!):<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080\">Haus<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Wasser<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Bett<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Universit\u00e4t<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Maus<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Foto<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Bus<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Adresse<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Hotel<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Mutter<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080\">Vater<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Both English and German borrow words from each other<\/h3>\n<p>German and English have borrowed many words from each other over the years! These are called loanwords.
