I love having a glass of wine with my dinner in the evening, and that is exactly what inspired me to write this post. Germany has a lot of great wines to offer and produces around 8000 to 9000 hectoliters a year.<\/p>\n

Popular German Wines<\/u><\/p>\n

Two thirds of Germany’s wines produced are indeed white wine, which is why a lot of the wine that I mention in this post is white!<\/p>\n

Riesling<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Sp\u00e4tburgunder <\/b><\/strong>(also known as Pinot Noir<\/b><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Grauburgunder <\/b><\/strong>(also known as Pinot Gris<\/b><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Wei\u00dfburgunder<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0(also known as Pinot Blanc<\/b><\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Kerner<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

E<\/b><\/strong>lbling<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Gew\u00fcrztraminer<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0(originates from Alsace in France, however as it is by the border by France and Germany it is produced in Germany too)<\/p>\n

Silvaner<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

M\u00fcller-Thurgau<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Dornfelder <\/b><\/strong>(red wine)<\/p>\n

Sekt <\/b><\/strong>(sparkling wine<\/p>\n

F<\/u>our<\/u>\u00a0Top Wine Regions in Germany<\/u><\/p>\n

Rheinheissen<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Rheinheissen produces the most wine in Germany and has the oldest documented vineyard dating back to the Romans. The most typical Rebsorten (grape varieties) that you will find there are Riesling, Dornfelder and Burgunder.<\/p>\n

Pfalz<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the second biggest producer in Germany with very hot and dry weather. They also produce a large amount of Riesling, along with Muller-Th\u00fcrgau, but they are most known for their Weinschorle (wine with sparkling water).<\/p>\n

M<\/b><\/strong>osel<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Located by the river\u00a0Mosel, the vineyards slope\u00a0steeply\u00a0downwards,\u00a0making them\u00a0the steepest vineyards in the world.\u00a0This\u00a0also\u00a0means\u00a0that the\u00a0grapes must be picked by hand.\u00a0Riesling is of course produced here, but also M\u00fcller-Thurgau\u00a0and Elbling. Red wine production (Sp\u00e4t Burgunder) has also increased\u00a0here over the\u00a0years. Mosel is located in northern Germany, which means\u00a0their wine\u00a0is\u00a0lighter and has a lower alcohol\u00a0percentage\u00a0than other wine regions.<\/p>\n

Sachsen<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

Although Sachsen is the smallest wine region in Germany, their yearly Weinfeste<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0(wine festivals) are not to be missed. Riesling, Goldriesling, Sp\u00e4tburgunder and Traminer are some of the many varieties that they have to offer.<\/p>\n

How to Describe Wine in German<\/u><\/p>\n
