In the last few weeks,\u00a0Impfstoffe\u00a0<\/em>(vaccines) against the Coronavirus have been rolled out around the world. However, the rate at which Impfungen\u00a0<\/em>(vaccinations) have been administered caused a lot of concern. Also in Germany. With 1207 deaths in one day, the country saw a new record; and yet, the amount of people that are open to an\u00a0Impfung\u00a0<\/em>remains unsatisfactorily low – at least, that’s what some believe. Let’s look at the Debatte\u00a0<\/em>(debate) on the\u00a0Impfpflicht\u00a0<\/em>(vaccination obligation) and how it got one Anw\u00e4rter\u00a0<\/em>(contender) to become Merkel<\/a>‘s\u00a0Nachfolger\u00a0<\/em>(successor) in some hot waters.<\/p>\n

Now that there is an\u00a0Impfstoff<\/em>, should people be forced to get it? An\u00a0Impfpflicht<\/em> could make sure that everybody gets vaccinated and\u00a0that\u00a0Coronama\u00dfnahmen\u00a0<\/em>(corona measures) could be loosened earlier. However, such an\u00a0Impfzwang\u00a0<\/em>(vaccination compulsion), as some prefer to call it, also removes the choice to get the\u00a0Impfung<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The argument put against this is that some\u00a0Impfungen\u00a0<\/em>are obligatory already in Germany, such as the\u00a0Masern-Schutzimpfung\u00a0<\/em>(Measles protection vaccination). So it is not entirely foreign to force B\u00fcrger <\/em>(citizens) to get an\u00a0Impfung<\/em>.<\/p>\n

However, this is the exception, and most\u00a0Impfungen\u00a0<\/em>are\u00a0freiwillig\u00a0<\/em>(voluntary).<\/p>\n
