Today we\u2019re going to learn the five senses \u2013 die f\u00fcnf Sinne \u2013 in German, as well as some related vocabulary. Let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n<h2>Die f\u00fcnf Sinne \u2013 The five senses<\/h2>\n<p>Here are what the five, basic human senses are called in German:<\/p>\n<p>HEARING: das Geh\u00f6r<br \/>\nSIGHT: das Sehen<br \/>\nTOUCH: der Tastsinn<br \/>\nTASTE: der Geschmack<br \/>\nSMELL: der Geruchssinn<\/p>\n<p>Usually when we talk about our senses on a day-to-day basis, we use the corresponding verbs to the above nouns \u2013\u2018Ich h\u00f6re nichts\u2019 (\u2018I don\u2019t hear anything\u2019) when someone asks you to listen out for a particular sound, for example. The verb tasten is not actually the best translation for the word \u2018touch\u2019! More accurate verbs are anfassen or ber\u00fchren. Here are a few words that will come in handy:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blind \u2013 blind<\/p>\n<p>Short-sighted \u2013 kurzsichtig<\/p>\n<p>Long-sighted &#8211; weitsichtig<\/p>\n<p>Deaf \u2013 taub<\/p>\n<p>Hard of hearing \u2013 schwerh\u00f6rig<\/p>\n<p>Mute \u2013 stumm<\/p>\n<p>Deaf and mute &#8211; taubstumm<\/p>\n<p>Loss of sense of smell \u2013 der Geruchsverlust<\/p>\n<p>Loss of sense of taste \u2013 die Geschmacksst\u00f6rung<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"firstHeading\"><\/a>Loss of sense of touch \u2013 die Hyp\u00e4sthesie<br \/>\n(For example, you might lose your sense of: der Schmerz- pain, die Vibration- vibration, or die Temperatur- temperature)<\/p>\n<h2>Other senses<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, human beings have other senses, too. <em>Der Gleichgewichtsinn<\/em> is the sense of balance, for instance, and <em>der sechste Sinn<\/em> is the famous \u2018sixth sense\u2019!
