In my last post, I gave you some vocabulary to describe where in the country you are, and what sort of place it is (<a title=\"Where In The Country Are You?\" href=\"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/where-in-the-country-are-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">you can read that post here!<\/a>). Following on from that post, I thought it&#8217;d be useful to include a selection of signs and notices you might come across when out and about in Germany &#8211; both the type you&#8217;d find somewhere <em>st\u00e4dtisch<\/em> (urban), and the type you&#8217;d find somewhere<em> l\u00e4ndlich<\/em> (rural).<\/p>\n<p><em>Note: I haven&#8217;t included the genders of the words as I usually do, because you don&#8217;t tend to see them on signs. some more common than others!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bahnhof<\/strong> &#8211; Train station<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stadtmitte<\/strong> &#8211; City centre<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parkplatz<\/strong> &#8211; Car park (also represented by a big<strong> P<\/strong> on a blue background)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toiletten<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Toilets<\/p>\n<p><strong>U-Bahn<\/strong> &#8211; Underground train system (also represented by a big <strong>U <\/strong>on a blue background)<\/p>\n<p><strong>S-Bahn<\/strong> &#8211; Suburban train system (also represented by a big <strong>S <\/strong>on a green background)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gleis<\/strong> &#8211; Platform (at a train station)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bushaltestelle<\/strong> &#8211; Bus stop (also represented by a big <strong>H <\/strong>on a yellow &amp; green background)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ausgang<\/strong> &#8211; Airport<\/p>\n<p><strong>Krankenhaus<\/strong> &#8211; Hospital (also represented by a <strong>red cross<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bibliothek<\/strong> &#8211; Library<\/p>\n<p>*<\/p>\n<p><strong>Now here are some less obvious, but nevertheless important, signs and notices you may spot:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stra\u00dfensperrung<\/strong> &#8211; Road closure<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gesperrt<\/strong> &#8211; Closed<\/p>\n<p><strong>Umleitung<\/strong> &#8211; Diversion<\/p>\n<p><strong>Streik<\/strong> &#8211; Strike<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maskenpflicht<\/strong> &#8211; Roof damage<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gewegsch\u00e4den<\/strong> &#8211; Pedestrian path damage<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Countryside<\/h2>\n<p>Arguably more important than city signs &#8211; because you&#8217;re often out in the middle of nowhere, with no one to ask for help! &#8211;
