After living in Germany for nine years, I have finally learned how to drive and I successfully passed my test a few months ago. Here are some tips and vocabulary if you also want to do your <\/span>F\u00fchrerschein<\/b> in Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n

Der Ablauf<\/b><\/h3>\n

The Process<\/span><\/h3>\n

First of all, there are different types of driving licenses. The most common <\/span>F\u00fchrerschein<\/b> (driving license) is <\/span>Klasse B<\/b>, which is how to drive a car. Here are the rest:<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00fchrerscheinklasse B f\u00fcr PKW<\/b> is driving license B for a car (PKW = <\/span>Personenkraftwagen<\/b> = person carrier)<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00fchrerscheinklasse BE f\u00fcr PKW mit Anh\u00e4nger<\/b> is driving license BE for a car with trailer<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00fchrerscheinklasse A\/1\/2\/M f\u00fcr Motorrad<\/b> is a driving license for a motorbike (the different letters depend on how fast the motorbike is and also from what age you can ride).<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00fchrerscheinklasse C1\/C1E f\u00fcr LKW<\/b> is a driving license for a lorry, or truck (LKW = <\/span>Lastkraftwagen<\/b> = heavy goods vehicle\/truck<\/span><\/p>\n

Theoriestunden<\/b><\/h3>\n

Theory Classes<\/span><\/h3>\n

In Germany you have to go to what are known in Germany as theory classes before you can take the theory test. How many theory classes you need to do depends on which driving license you need. For example, for a standard B driving license you need to take 14 classes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fahrstunden<\/b><\/h3>\n

Driving Lessons<\/span><\/h3>\n

There are a certain amount of special lessons you need to do before you can take your exam in Germany. For a standard B driving license, you need to have completed the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

F\u00fcnf Fahrstunden auf Landstra\u00dfe\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/b> five driving lessons on a country road<\/span><\/p>\n

Vier Fahrstunden auf der Autobahn<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 four driving lessons on the motorway<\/span><\/p>\n

Drei Fahrstunden in der Nacht<\/b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0three driving lessons at night<\/span><\/p>\n

Once you have completed these steps you are able to take the practical test. In the practical driving test, your <\/span>Fahrlehrer<\/b> (driving instructor) sits next to you as they normally would. The <\/span>Fahrpr\u00fcfer<\/b> (driving examiner) sits behind the driving instructor and will give you the instructions on where to go.<\/span><\/p>\n

When you have successfully passed the theory and practical test, you will get your <\/span>F\u00fchrerschein<\/b> (driving license) and have a two year <\/span>Probezeit<\/b> (probation), which means you are a <\/span>Fahranf\u00e4nger<\/b> (a driving beginner). During these two years you have an <\/span>Alkoholverbot<\/b> (an alcohol ban) and even have a slower speed limit when driving in other countries such as in Italy and Croatia.<\/span><\/p>\n
