Gr\u00fc\u00df Gott! Wie Geht’s?<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

Since I wrote about the<\/span> Schw\u00e4bisch<\/em><\/strong> dialect in my last Post, it seemed appropriate to talk about one of the cities located in<\/span> der Gegend<\/em><\/strong> historically known as Swabia.<\/span> Diese Stadt<\/em><\/strong> – meine Lieblingsstadt<\/em><\/strong> — is called Heidelberg. Founded in the 12th century, it is nestled in<\/span> dem Odenwald<\/em><\/strong> in Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg.<\/span> The oldest university (the<\/span> Ruprecht-Karl Universit\u00e4t<\/em><\/strong>) in Germany was established there in 1386, by Rupert I of Wittelsbach. He built it on the model of the University of Paris.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

When you walk around the<\/span> Altstadt, <\/em><\/strong>look up to your right! What you will see is the beautiful 13th century castle, <\/span>das Heidelberger Schloss<\/em><\/strong>. Although, the castle is very romantic, what really made an impression on me was<\/span> “<\/span>das Gro\u00dfe Fass”<\/strong><\/em> located in the<\/span> Schlosskeller<\/strong><\/em>, wine cellar. This wine barrel is so gigantic that you can actually climb on top of it. Build in 1751; it has the capacity to hold about 220,000 liters. It is believed to have been filled with wine only 3 times.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

Ich erinnere mich noch an die sch\u00f6ne Aussicht<\/em><\/strong>, I must have been about 8 or 9 years old. There I stood,<\/span> auf der Br\u00fccke<\/em><\/strong>, near\u00a0the<\/span> Schloss<\/em><\/strong>, in the distance you\u00a0could see the river meandering through<\/span> diese wundersch\u00f6ne Stadt<\/em><\/strong> – the Neckar River — breathtaking!<\/span> Unvergesslich!<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
