{"id":317,"date":"2010-05-22T16:56:15","date_gmt":"2010-05-22T16:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/?p=317"},"modified":"2010-05-22T16:56:15","modified_gmt":"2010-05-22T16:56:15","slug":"arbeit-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.transparent.com\/german\/arbeit-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Arbeit ( Work)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been perusing through the web looking at articles about unemployment in Germany and the U.S. Since the economic downturn in 2008,\u00a0<em>Arbeitslosigkeit<\/em>\u00a0(unemployment) has skyrocketed in Germany, U.S. and elsewhere in Europe.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nBefore things went sour (economically) Germany had seen a record high in\u00a0<em>Arbeitsplatz<\/em>\u00a0(employment): 40.3 million, the highest level since\u00a0<em>Wiedervereinigung<\/em>\u00a0(reunification) in 1990. The labor market reported, in January \u201809 that the amount of<em>Arbeiter<\/em>\u00a0(workers) without employment rose by 18,000 in December \u201908. Analysts also said the number of German jobs lost would rise to 30,000.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThough the minds of German and American job seekers are still filled with doom and gloom about the job market, there are signs of jobs coming onto the market.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nMarket Watch reported the number of unemployed German workers was down by 3,000 in December \u201909, but warned the number could rise again. There is some speculation about the accuracy of this number.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nA program called \u201cKurzarbeit\u201d or short term work is in effect. Employers, instead of losing jobs, are\u00a0<em>degradierte\u00a0<\/em>(demoted) to work fewer hours during the week, but receive full-time pay, which is subsidized by the federal government.
