Hopefully you will use them more successful than me \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><strong>A comma is set&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong> <strong>&#8230;between main and subordinate clauses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <em>in front of subordinating conjunctions (&#8220;dass&#8221;, &#8220;weil&#8221;, etc.)<\/em><br \/>\nMeine Katze freut sich, dass ich komme. (My cat is happy that I come.)<br \/>\nMein Hund ist traurig, weil ich gehe. (My dog is sad, because I go.)<br \/>\nWenn meine Tiere traurig sind, gehe ich nicht. (When my animals are sad, I don&#8217;t go.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<em> in front of relative pronouns<\/em><br \/>\nDas Futter, das mein Hund am liebsten frisst, gibt es im Supermarkt. (The food that my dog likes most is available in the supermarket.)<br \/>\nMein Hund schl\u00e4ft neben dem Platz, an dem meine Katze schl\u00e4ft. (My dog sleeps next to the spot where\u00a0my cat sleeps.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> <strong>&#8230;in front of sentences or parts of sentences with &#8220;aber&#8221;, &#8220;jedoch&#8221;, &#8220;doch&#8221;, &#8220;sondern&#8221;<\/strong><br \/>\nMeine Katze ist klein, aber mutig. (My cat is small, but courageous.)<br \/>\nSie ist ziemlich faul, doch einmal in der Woche geht sie auf die Jagd nach M\u00e4usen. (She is quite lazy, though once a week she goes hunting for mice.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> <strong>&#8230;near appositions (additional items)<\/strong><br \/>\nMein Hund, ein brauner Dackel, hat nur Angst vor dem Postboten. (My dog, a brown dachshund, is scared only of the mailman.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> <strong>&#8230; in listings (but not in front of &#8220;und&#8221; and &#8220;oder&#8221;)<\/strong><br \/>\nMein Hund, meine Katze und ich gehen am Freitag zum Tierarzt. (My dog, my cat and I are going to the veterinarian on Friday.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>No comma is set&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> <strong>&#8230;after adverbial phrases at the beginning of a sentence<\/strong><br \/>\nGl\u00fccklicherweise mag mein Hund Katzen und umgekehrt. (Fortunately, my dog likes cats and vice versa.)<br \/>\nMeiner Meinung nach sollten Hunde und Katzen zusammen Katz-und-Maus spielen. (According to my opinion, dogs and cats should play cat-and-mouse together.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exercise:<\/strong><br \/>\nTry to set the missing commas&#8230; (And try to translate, if you want!)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Listings:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nAuf der Wiese grasen vier K\u00fche zwei Pferde sechs Schafe drei Lamas und eine Ziege.<br \/>\nDer Regen prasselte der Wind pfiff durch die Ritzen ein Blitz schlug in der N\u00e4he ein und der Donner krachte ohrenbet\u00e4ubend.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Main and subordinate clauses:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nIch fragte meine Mutter ob ich gehen k\u00f6nne.<br \/>\nSie war einverstanden und wollte nur dass ich um 6 wieder nach Hause komme.<br \/>\nAls ich auf die Uhr sah war es schon 5 vor 6.<br \/>\nIch beeilte mich weil ich m\u00f6glichst p\u00fcnktlich nach Hause kommen wollte.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Relative pronouns:<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nDie Sportlehrerin die uns begleiten sollte z\u00e4hlte alle noch einmal durch.<br \/>\nDas Gep\u00e4ck das wir am Hoftor gestapelt hatten lag den anderen im Weg.<\/p>\n<p>I guess the exercises are pretty simple, that\u00b4s why I will spare the solution.
