Schwei\u00df tropft von meiner Stirn w\u00e4hrend ich den sandigen Feldweg entlang laufe.<\/span> (Sweat is dripping off my forehead as I\u2019m running along the sandy farm lane.)<\/span> An jeder Stelle des Weges, die ich mit meinen Schuhen treffe, hinterlasse ich eine Staubwolke.<\/span> (I leave a dust cloud at each patch where my shoe hits the ground.)<\/span> Die Sonne scheint.<\/span> (The sun is shining.)<\/span> Es ist warm.<\/span> (It is warm.)<\/span> Der Fr\u00fchling ist endlich in Deutschland angekommen.<\/span> (Spring has finally arrived in Germany.)<\/span> Und absolut nichts deutet darauf hin, woran viele Menschen in diesen Tagen zu leiden haben.<\/span> (And absolutely nothing indicates from what people have to suffer these days.)<\/span> Das Land steht unter Wasser.<\/span> (The country is under water.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00dcberall wo Fl\u00fcsse sind, m\u00fcssen Menschen und Tiere mit Hochwasser rechnen.<\/span> (Everywhere where there are rivers, people and animals have to envisage high water.)<\/span> Und manchmal tritt das Wasser sogar \u00fcber die Ufer, weil das Flussbett zu klein ist um Wassermengen zu tragen, die durch starke Regenf\u00e4lle erh\u00f6ht worden sind.<\/span> (And sometimes the water even bursts its banks because the riverbed is too small to carry the amount of water that had heightened because of heavy rain falls.)<\/span> Immer wieder passiert es auch in Deutschland, das bewohnte Gebiete \u00fcberflutet werden, doch was sich in diesem Jahr hier abspielt ist wahrlich eine Katastrophe.<\/span> (Time after time it happens that inhabitated areas in Germany are flooded but occurs this years ist truly a catastrophe.)<\/span> Es ist nicht nur ein einziges Gebiet, das von der Flut heimgesucht wird, sondern diesmal ist das gesamte Land betroffen.<\/span> (It is not a single area that is haunted by the flood but this time the whole country is hit hard.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Begonnen hatte die Katastrophe im S\u00fcden von Deutschland und zog sich \u00fcber den \u00f6stlichen Teil hoch in den Norden des Landes.<\/span> (The catastrophe began in the south of Germany and trekked over the eastern part up to the north of the country.) Die Bilanz des Jahrhunderthochwassers: Tausende Menschen mussten in Sicherheit gebracht werden und haben ihre Existenz verloren.<\/span> (The results of the hundred-year flood: Thousands of people had to be taken to the boats and lost their existence.) Br\u00fccken und Zugstrecken mussten gesperrt werden.<\/span> (Bridges and railroad lines had to be closed.) Schulen haben ihre T\u00fcren geschlossen.<\/span> (Schools shut their doors.) Der Schaden bel\u00e4uft sich derzeit auf einen zweistelligen Milliardenbetrag.<\/span> (At the moment, the damage amounts to tens of billions.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Auch wenn die Menschen hierzulande gerade eine harte Zeit durchleben, so haben sie erfahren d\u00fcrfen, dass ihnen viele Freiwille mit helfender Hand zur Seite stehen.<\/span> (Even though people currently go through hardship over here, they have experienced that many volunteers give them a helping hand.) Hunderte von Menschen f\u00fcllen Sands\u00e4cke, helfen Betroffenen ihr Hab und Gut in Sicherheit zu bringen, oder bieten den Opfern einen Unterkunft in den eigenen vier W\u00e4nden an.<\/span> (Hundreds of people are filling sandbags, help affected people to secure their belongins or provide vicitms with lodging in their own four walls.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Ich w\u00fcnsche allen Betroffenen viel Kraft, diese schwere Zeit zu \u00fcberstehen.<\/span> (I wish all vicitms much strength to ride this hard time out.)<\/span><\/p>\n
