This is Teil 5<\/em> \u00a0(part 5) of the story of Max, a German student. Be sure to read part 1<\/a>, part 2<\/a>, part 3<\/a> and\u00a0part 4<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>first!<\/p>\n

Last week, Max caught the bus for his appointment at the eye doctor’s. In the bus, he liked to do some people watching. He was very curious about an older man in the bus, who had\u00a0a pink umbrella, and a Dalmatian – a strange combination! Max was too curious to just watch, and decided to ask the man what’s up with that dog and that umbrella.<\/p>\n

Kapitel 5<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Max steht auf und geht auf den Mann zu. Da der Bus ziemlich viel wackelt, braucht er die Haltestangen um sich fest zu halten. <\/em><\/p>\n

Als Max vor dem alten Herrn steht, r\u00fchrt er sich nicht. Vorsichtig spricht Max ihn an: \u00bbguten Morgen, ich hoffe, ich st\u00f6re nicht.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Der alte Mann erschrickt, und schaut auf. Sein Schrecken \u00e4ndert sich in ein L\u00e4cheln. \u00bbHallo! Nein, Sie st\u00f6ren \u00fcberhaupt nicht. Bitte, setzen Sie sich doch!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Max nimmt Platz neben dem Mann und ist dabei vorsichtig, dass er dem Dalmatiner nicht auf den Schwanz tritt. Er ist \u00fcberrascht, wie freundlich und einladend der \u00e4ltere Herr ist.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbVielen Dank! Sie brauchen mich nicht zu siezen<\/a>. Sie k\u00f6nnen mich auch duzen<\/a>. Ich hei\u00dfe Max!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbEinverstanden. Ich bin Heinrich, und ich bitte dich, duze <\/a>mich auch. Sonst f\u00fchle ich mich so alt! Also, Max, <\/em>what’s up?\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

What’s up? Solche Umgangssprache hat Max nicht erwartet. Ein wenig verwirrt, versucht er zu erkl\u00e4ren wieso er zu Heinrich gekommen ist.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbIch habe dich beobachtet, und fragte mich…\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Max wei\u00df nicht, wie er Heinrich fragen soll, dass er den Regenschirm ein bisschen verr\u00fcckt findet. Vielleicht mag er einfach nur die Farbe? <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbJa ja, ich verstehe schon. Du fragst dich was ich mit einem pinkfarbenen Regenschirm mache, was?\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbRichtig! Ja\u2026 Also, ja, schon… bemerkenswert!\u00ab erwidert Max.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbIch gehe zu einer Brustkrebsveranstaltung im Stadtzentrum. Pink ist ja die Farbe f\u00fcr die Brustkrebsbek\u00e4mpfung.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbAha! Das erkl\u00e4rt es.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbUnd wohin f\u00e4hrst du?\u00ab fragt Heinrich.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbIch habe einen Termin beim Augenarzt. Ich muss einen Augentest machen f\u00fcr meinen F\u00fchrerschein, da ich genug Sehst\u00e4rke brauche um ohne Sehhilfe autofahren zu d\u00fcrfen.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Der Bus bleibt stehen.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbHier muss ich raus!\u00ab sagt Max, und springt auf. \u00bbDanke f\u00fcr das Gespr\u00e4ch, und die Aufkl\u00e4rung. Viel Erfolg bei der Krebsveranstaltung!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbDanke! Ich w\u00fcnsche dir viel Erfolg beim Augenarzt! Hoffentlich brauchst du keine Brille!\u00ab ruft Heinrich Max hinterher. Er ist schon aus dem Bus gesprungen.<\/em><\/p>\n

Die T\u00fcren schlie\u00dfen sich, und der Bus f\u00e4hrt weiter. Und Max rennt weiter. Auf zum Augenarzt!<\/em><\/p>\n

THE TRANSLATION<\/u><\/p>\n

Chapter 5<\/strong><\/p>\n

Max gets up and walks towards the man. Because the bus shakes quite a lot, he needs the grab poles to hold himself.<\/p>\n

When Max stands before the old man, he does not move. Carefully, Max addresses him: “good morning, I hope, I am not disturbing.”<\/p>\n

The old man is frightened, and looks up. His fright changes into a smile. “Hello! No, you do not disturb at all. Please, have a seat!”<\/p>\n

Max sits down next to the man and is careful, that he does not step on the Dalmatian’s tail. He is surprised how friendly and welcoming the older man is.<\/p>\n

“Thank you! You do not have to siezen <\/a><\/em>(address somebody with the formal Sie<\/em>) me. You may also duzen <\/a><\/em>(address somebody with the informal du<\/em>) me.\u00a0 I am called Max!”<\/p>\n

“Agreed. I am Heinrich, and I ask you, duze <\/a><\/em>me too. Otherwise I feel so old! So, Max, what’s up?”<\/p>\n

What’s up? Max did not expect such vernacular. A little confused, he tries to explain why he approached Heinrich.<\/p>\n

“I watched you, and wondered\u2026”<\/p>\n

Max doesn’t know how to ask Heinrich that he finds his umbrella a bit crazy. Maybe he just likes the color?<\/p>\n

“Yes yes, I get it already. You wonder what I am doing with a pink umbrella, right?”<\/p>\n

“Exactly! Yes… Well, yes, it is<\/em>… exceptional!” Max replied.<\/p>\n

“I am going to a breast cancer event in the city center. Pink is of course the color for breast cancer control.”<\/p>\n

“Ah! That explains it.”<\/p>\n

“And where are you going?” Heinrich asks.<\/p>\n

“I have an appointment with the eye doctor. I have to do an eye test for my driver’s license, since I need enough vision to be allowed to drive without vision aid.”<\/p>\n

The bus stops.<\/p>\n

“I have to get off here!” Max says, and jumps up. “Thank you for the talk, and clearing it up. Good luck at the cancer event!”<\/p>\n

“Thanks! I wish you good luck at the eye doctor’s! Hopefully, you don’t need glasses!” Heinrich shouts after Max. He already jumped out of the bus.<\/p>\n

The doors close, and the bus drives on. And max runs further. To the eye doctor’s!\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
