This is one of many New Year\u2019s greetings in German, which translated into English goes something like this (please note that this is my own translation \u2013 not an \u2018official\u2019 one or anything!):<\/p>\n<p>Sun, moon and stars,<br \/>\nEverything is very far,<br \/>\nBut the Good is extremely near &#8211;<br \/>\nA happy and beautiful New Year!<\/p>\n<p>On that note, I hope you are having a good start to 2015! <strong>Das Neujahr<\/strong> (New Year) is often accompanied by <strong>die Neujahrsvors\u00e4tzen \u2013 New Year\u2019s Resolutions<\/strong> (<em>Der Neujahrsvortsatz<\/em> if you&#8217;re talking about a single resolution). Have you made any <strong>Neujahrsvors\u00e4tzen <\/strong>for 2015? If you have, they could be one of the following:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Typische Neujahrsvors\u00e4tzen \u2013 Typical New Year\u2019s Resolutions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I want to lose weight \u2013 <em>Ich will abnehmen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to pass my driving test \u2013 <em>Ich will meine Fahrpr\u00fcfung bestehen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to join a gym \u2013 <em>Ich will einem Fitnessstudio beitreten<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to spend more time with friends \u2013 <em>Ich will mehr Zeit mit meinen Freunden verbringen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to call my parents more often \u2013 <em>Ich will meine Eltern \u00f6fter anrufen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to find my dream job \u2013 <em>Ich will mein Traumjob finden<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to travel more \u2013 <em>Ich will mehr reisen<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to quit smoking \u2013 <em>Ich will mit dem Rauchen aufh\u00f6ren<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to drink less alcohol \u2013 <em>Ich will weniger Alkohol trinken<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to live a healthier lifestyle \u2013 <em>Ich will gesunder leben<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I want to learn German\u2013 <em>Ich will Deutsch lernen \ud83d\ude42<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Do leave a comment and tell me what your <strong>Neujahrsvors\u00e4tzen <\/strong>are \u2013 and if they aren\u2019t on this list, tell me them in English and I\u2019ll give you the German for them! Furthermore, if you have any more suggestions I will add them to the list!<\/p>\n<p>****<\/p>\n<p>But not everybody bothers with New Year\u2019s resolutions. If you don\u2019t make them, you can say:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ich mache keine Neujahrsvors\u00e4tzen<\/strong> :: I don\u2019t make New Year\u2019s resolutions<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe you usually make them, but you just didn\u2019t make any this year. In that case, you can say:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ich habe mir in diesem Jahr keine Vors\u00e4tze f\u00fcr das kommende Jahr gemacht<\/strong> :: This year, I didn\u2019t make any resolutions for the year ahead<\/p>\n<p>And what about when you break a New Year\u2019s resolution?
