When b, d, g is at the end of the syllable it changes to p, t, k respectively.<\/p>\n<p>b to p: (<strong>abheben<\/strong>) is pronounced as apheben<\/p>\n<p>d to t: (<strong>sind<\/strong>) is pronounced as sint<\/p>\n<p>g to k: (<strong>tag<\/strong>) is pronounced as tak<\/p>\n<p>When an h follows a vowel it&#8217;s silent. You can see this in words like (<strong>gehen<\/strong>) and (<strong>sehen<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>Here are some other pointers:<\/p>\n<p>German v is pronounced like an English f : (<strong>der Vater<\/strong>) is pronounced as der Fater<\/p>\n<p>German w is pronounced like an English v : (<strong>das Wunder<\/strong>) is pronounced as das Vunder<\/p>\n<p>German z is pronounced like\u00a0a ts : (<strong>die Zeit<\/strong>)\u00a0is pronounced as die Tsite<\/p>\n<p>Here are some consonant clusters that you might come across:<\/p>\n<p>ck is pronounced as k : (<strong>der Schock<\/strong>) is pronounced as der Shock<\/p>\n<p>ch is the ch in the word loch as in the loch ness monster : (<strong>mich<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>pf is pronounced with both consonants : (<strong>das Pferd<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>ph is pronounced as f : (<strong>das Alphabet<\/strong>) is pronounced as das Alfabet<\/p>\n<p>qu is pronounced as kv : (<strong>die Qual<\/strong>) is pronounced as die Kval<\/p>\n<p>sch is pronounced as sh : (<strong>die Schule<\/strong>) is pronounced as die Shule<\/p>\n<p>sp and st is pronounced as shp and sht respectively : (<strong>sprechen<\/strong>) is pronounced as shprechen.
