Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One of the great things in <strong>der Biergarten<\/strong> (the beer garden) is that it is <strong>erlaubt<\/strong> (allowed) to bring your own food, so you could bring an entire picnic with you and no one would mind! Own photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is very traditional to see <strong>Kastanienb\u00e4ume <\/strong>(chestnut trees) in a beer garden, I\u2019m not entirely sure what the reason is to this but it makes sense as they are very big and therefore give plenty of shade on a hot summers day.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest beer garden in Munich is by <strong>Hirschgarten <\/strong>(\u201cDeer garden\u201d) with around 8000 seats! I was there last year to watch the <strong>Fussballweltmeisterschaft<\/strong> (football world cup) which was a great experience. Germany started public viewings in beer gardens of the world cup in 2006 and since then they show not only the world cup, but also other big football matches around the year.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>Feiertagen<\/strong> (bank\/public holidays) you can often find live bands playing in beer gardens as well, which makes the whole <strong>stimmung<\/strong> (atmosphere\/mood) even better as usual.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s some helpful vocabulary and sentences of what you might see in a typical Bavarian menu:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brotzeit<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Literal translation \u201cbread time\u201d:\u00a0 This is exactly what it says &#8211; lots of bread or sandwiches with various cheeses and meat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Obazda\/Obatzter\/Obatzda<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This is a Bavarian speciality which is like a cheese spread, often eaten with <strong>Brezn<\/strong>. It contains camembert, butter, ground red pepper, cumin and onion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Brezn<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Another Bavarian word, in <strong>hochdeutsch<\/strong> (\u201chigh german\u201d\/normal german) it\u2019s called <strong>Laugengeb\u00e4ck<\/strong> which in English means pretzel!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kn\u00f6del<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Dumplings.
