This is Teil 4\u00a0<\/em>(part 4) of the story of Max, a German student. Sorry for the little delay this weekend, but here it is! Be sure to read part 1<\/a>, part 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0part 3<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>first! Last week,\u00a0Max was getting ready to rush to his appointment at the eye doctor’s. He showered, got dressed, and ran through the cold winter morning to the bus station. He waited for the bus, taking a moment to enjoy the beautiful dawn it was.<\/p>\n

Kapitel 4<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Es ist acht Uhr sechsunddrei\u00dfig. Wie \u00fcblich kommt der Bus genau p\u00fcnktlich. Und das ist Max nur recht, denn je l\u00e4nger er in der K\u00e4lte steht, je k\u00e4lter ihm wird. Der Bus bleibt stehen, die T\u00fcren \u00f6ffnen sich. Max steigt ein. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbEine Fahrkarte ins Stadtzentrum, bitte\u00ab, fragt Max den Busfahrer. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbNat\u00fcrlich, junger Mann! Eine Karte kostet ein Euro f\u00fcnfzig.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Max gibt dem Busfahrer zwei M\u00fcnzen, nimmt seine Karte, und setzt sich auf einen freien Platz hinten im Bus. <\/em><\/p>\n

Max mag es, ganz hinten zu sitzen, weil er sich von dort die anderen Fahrg\u00e4ste am besten anschauen kann. Er mag es, sie sich zu mustern, und sich vor zu stellen, wohin sie wohl fahren. Oft ratet er, wo sie aussteigen werden. <\/em><\/p>\n

Oliver, sein neuseel\u00e4ndischer Brieffreund, hat ihm mal geschrieben wie man das auf English nennt. Was war es noch? People Watching? Ja, das ist es!<\/em><\/p>\n

Der Bus ist fast leer. Es sitzt ein \u00e4lterer Herr ganz vorne hinter dem Busfahrer, auf einem Sessel entgegen der Fahrtrichtung. Max kann ihn dadurch gut beobachten. <\/em><\/p>\n

Er tr\u00e4gt einen wei\u00dfen Mantel mit riesigen schwarzen Kn\u00f6pfen. In seiner rechten Hand h\u00e4lt er eine Leine, die zu seinem Hund f\u00fchrt. Der Dalmatiner liegt gelangweilt auf den Boden, vor den F\u00fc\u00dfen des Mannes. Ihm scheint die Busfahrt nicht zu erschrecken, was hei\u00dft, dass er schon oft mitgefahren ist, \u00fcberlegt Max. <\/em><\/p>\n

In der anderen Hand h\u00e4lt der \u00e4ltere Herr einen pinkfarbenen Regenschirm, der mit seiner schrillen Farbe den Mann und seinen Hund noch farbloser scheinen l\u00e4sst. <\/em><\/p>\n

Ein Regenschirm? Aber es regnet doch gar nicht? Vielleicht benutzt er ihn, wenn es pl\u00f6tzlich anf\u00e4ngt zu schneien? Und die Frage aller Fragen: wieso Pink? <\/em><\/p>\n

Max ist zu neugierig, um den Mann nur zu beobachten. Er entschlie\u00dft sich, ihn zu fragen.<\/em><\/p>\n

THE TRANSLATION<\/u><\/p>\n

Chapter 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is eight thirty-six AM. As usual, the bus is right on time. And that is just fine with Max, since the longer he stands in the cold, the colder he gets. The bus stops, the doors open. Max gets in.<\/p>\n

“One ticket to the city center, please”, Max asks the bus driver.<\/p>\n

“Of course, young man! A ticket costs one euro fifty.”<\/p>\n

Max gives the bus driver two coins, takes his ticket, and sits down on a free spot at the back of the bus.<\/p>\n

Max likes to sit all the way in the back, because from there he can have the best look at the other passengers. He likes to examine them, and to imagine where they might go. Often he guesses where they will get off.<\/p>\n

Oliver, his friend from New Zealand, wrote him once what that is called in English. What was it again? People Watching? Yes, that is it!<\/p>\n

The bus is almost empty. A older man is sitting at the very front behind the bus driver, on a seat opposite of the direction of travel. Therefore, Max can observe him well.<\/p>\n

He is wearing a white coat with giant black buttons. In his right hand he is holding a leash, which leads to his dog. The Dalmatian is lying bored on the ground, in front of the of the man. The bus ride does not seem to frighten him, which means that he already rode along often, Max thinks.<\/p>\n

In the other Hand, the older man holds a pink umbrella, which, with its shrill color, makes the man and his dog appear to be yet more colorless.<\/p>\n

An umbrella? But it doesn’t even rain? Maybe he uses it if it suddenly starts snowing? And the question of questions: why pink?<\/p>\n

Max is too curious to only observe the man. He decides to ask him.<\/p>\n
