I am very sorry that last week, there was no new\u00a0Kapitel. It was a very busy week for me. Therefore, there will be two\u00a0Kapitel\u00a0this week! One today, and one in the weekend. Happy reading!<\/p>\n

Yesterday, Max got off the bus, and went to the eye doctor’s practice to get his vision test. He contemplates a bit about upcoming Christmas in the waiting room, where he is all alone, and then gets picked up by Dr. Jauch for the test. How does it go?<\/p>\n

Kapitel 7<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00bbBitte, setze dich hin vor dem Autorefraktometer.\u00ab Max setzt sich hin. Als er dieses Wort zum ersten Mal h\u00f6rte, musste er dreimal fragen, bevor er verstanden hat, worum es ging. Autorefraktometer. Gibt es kein einfacheres Wort f\u00fcr ein Augentestger\u00e4t?<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbWie immer siehst du die Landolt-Ringe, und sagst du mir wo die Ringe unterbrochen sind. Oben, unten, links, rechts. Du kennst es!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Dr. Jauch l\u00e4chelt ihn an. Max nickt, und sieht in das Ger\u00e4t. Dort sind sie: die Ringe, die sein Vater so oft gesehen haben muss. Und jetzt ist er dran.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbAlso, fangen wir an! Du kannst einfach von links nach rechts sehen, und mir die Richtung der \u00d6ffnungen sagen.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Max beginnt: \u00bbLinks, rechts, rechts, unten, links.\u00ab Mensch, das ist ja einfacher als Max sich vorgestellt hat! Das schafft er doch locker.<\/em><\/p>\n

Doch bei der siebten Reihe wird es schwer. Ai! Was ist das? Rechts? Oder doch oben? Max ratet. \u00bbRechts!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Die achte Reihe kann er wirklich nicht mehr richtig sehen. <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbDiese Reihe schaffe ich nicht mehr\u00ab, gibt Max sich geschlagen.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbKein Problem, Max. Alle Reihen schafft eigentlich keiner. Ich sehe mir die Ergebnisse kurz an.\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Max ist nerv\u00f6s. Hoffentlich sind seine Augen in Ordnung! <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00bbJa, alles gut! F\u00fcr den F\u00fchrerschein brauchst du eine Sehst\u00e4rke von mindestens null komma sieben (0,7). Das hast du geschafft. Du liegst bei null komma neunundsiebzig (0,79). Das reicht v\u00f6llig aus!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Was eine Erleichterung! \u00bbVielen Dank, Dr. Jauch!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Der Arzt schreibt die Bescheinigung, die Max braucht, und unterschreibt. Mit einem H\u00e4ndedruck \u00fcbergibt er ihm das Dokument. \u00bbHoffentlich nicht bis bald\u00ab, scherzt Dr. Jauch.<\/em><\/p>\n

Max lacht. \u00bbAuf Wiedersehen!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Er geht zur Rezeption, und holt seine Brieftasche raus. \u00bbDer Sehtest f\u00fcr den F\u00fchrerschein… Das kostet sechs euro dreiundvierzig (\u20ac 6,43).\u00ab Max hatte das Geld schon abgez\u00e4hlt, und gibt es dem Assistenten. \u00bbDanke. Tsch\u00fcss!\u00ab<\/em><\/p>\n

Auf geht’s zum Supermarkt. Der ist eh auf dem Weg zur Fahrschule. Dann kann Max schon die Bescheinigung abgeben. <\/em><\/p>\n

Was wird er beim Supermarkt machen? Er hat letzte Woche jemanden getroffen… Und heute abend hat er eine Verabredung! Er will f\u00fcr sie kochen – daf\u00fcr braucht er Zutaten!<\/em><\/p>\n

Chapter 7<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Please, sit down in front of the auto refractometer.” Max sits down. When he heard this word for the first time, he had to ask three times before he understood what it was about. Auto refractometer. Is there no simpler word for a eye testing device?<\/p>\n

“As always, you see the Landolt Cs,\u00a0 and you tell me where the rings are interrupted. Top, bottom, left, right. You know it!”<\/p>\n

Dr. Jauch smiles at him. Max nods, and looks into the device. There they are: the rings that his father must have seen so often. And now, it’s his turn.<\/p>\n

“So, let’s begin! You can just see from left to right, and tell me the direction of the openings.”<\/p>\n

Max begins: “left, right, right, bottom, left.” Gosh, it is even easier than Max imagined it! This, he can easily manage.<\/p>\n

However, it gets difficult at the seventh row. Ai! What’s that? Right? Or at the top after all? Max guesses.<\/p>\n

“Right!”<\/p>\n

He really can’t read the eighth line well anymore.<\/p>\n

“I can’t do this row anymore,” Max admits defeat.<\/p>\n

“No problem, Max. Nobody actually nails all rows. I will check out the results for a moment.”<\/p>\n

Max is nervous. Hopefully, his eyes are alright!<\/p>\n

“Yes, all is well! For a driver’s license, you need a vision of at least zero point seven (0.7). You managed that. You are at zero point seventy-nine (0.79). That is utterly enough!”<\/p>\n

Wha t a relief! “Thank you very much, Dr. Jauch!”<\/p>\n

The doctor writes the attestation that Max needs, and signs. With a\u00a0 handshake he hands over the document to Max. “I hope I won’t see you soon,” Dr. Jauch jokes.<\/p>\n

Max laughs. “Bye!”<\/p>\n

He walks to the welcome desk and takes out his wallet. “The vision test for a driver’s license\u2026 That costs six euro forty-three (\u20ac6.43).” Max had already counted the money, and gives it to the assistant. “Thanks. Bye!”<\/p>\n

Let’s go to the supermarket! It is on the way to the driving school anyway. Then, Max can also already hand in the attestation.<\/p>\n

What will he do at the supermarket? Last week, he met somebody\u2026 And tonight he has a date! He will cook for her – for that he needs ingredients!<\/p>\n
